Valheim 's Hearth and Home Update has brought a new layer to the Viking survival game. One of the more interesting of these additions is the Lox Saddle. An aggressive and large animal from the Plains Biome, The Lox in Valheim has gained a new purpose with this creation. With the Lox Saddle, a tamed Lox can be used as a mode of transportation. But crafting a Lox Saddle and taming these beasts can be quite the challenge. Especially for players who are just getting into the Plains Biome in their Valheim playthrough.

Lox are aggressive creatures found in Plains. They are an enlarged fusion of both a lizard and an ox, with shaggy brown hair and reptilian skin. Lox can be tamed which allows them to be bred and ridden. See: Aggressive Creature Strategies. For general taming information and strategies, see Taming. Because lox tend to stay in herds and wander back to the same location, it is possible to tame large groups of lox even early in the game by periodically sprinting through the plains and scattering the cloudberries around places where the herds gather. Alternatively, with a decent Sneak Skill and carefully watching your surroundings it is possible to sneak at single lox or small herds and disperse the cloudberries this way. It is recommended to not go below 50 stamina when doing this so you can run away if spotted. Once most or all of them are tame, Deathsquitos and Fulings will often attack them instead of the player. With a number of tame lox, there will usually be one between the player and a new spawn. However, without adequate healing, some of the lox are liable to eventually die if the area is active at night or during certain invasions. This strategy saves you from having to build pens for the lox, but the risk of death is high while scattering seeds. If your armor does not protect you from a Deathsquito attack, it may be ideal to leave everything in chests except cloudberries and flint spears.
A ridden lox also completely ignores a player's carried weight, able to move and even sprint while the rider is encumbered.

The Mountain is a biome which features frozen snow covered peaks framed with Fir trees. This frozen and unforgiving region is home to Wolves and others sons of Fenrir. Drakes , the offspring of Moder , can be found in the skies making their nests at its peaks where they lay their Dragon eggs. Beware shifting piles of stone, they might be more alive than you think, stirring the resting Stone Golem. Mountains can also contain Frost Caves , which are a dungeon home to Cultists and their pet Ulv. Bats also make their home here and can startle unsuspecting Vikings. Crystals can be found growing naturally on the walls and occassionally contain a large underground lake, be careful not to wake the Stone Golem that can also be resting there. Going into the mountain biome will cause the Freezing effect on the player. This effect can be negated by drinking Frost resistance mead , wearing a Lox cape , wearing a Wolf fur cape , wearing a Fenris Coat , or wearing the Wolf armor chest. The Wolf armor legs do not offer frost resistance.
