The idea behind this rather roundabout routing was to tag onto a Singapore Suites flight departing from Frankfurt right afterwards. In This Post. After arriving in economy class from Singapore, there were long lines at the transit security checkpoint at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. We had just 15 minutes to spend at the Thai Airways Royal Sillk Lounge at Concourse E, so we quickly dipped in to enjoy a quick drink before boarding our flight to Frankfurt. This was my first time flying long-haul with Thai Airways in business class, although I had flown the airline once before on a regional short-haul flight. I was familiar with the cabin from last time around, but it was nice to see the distinct purple cabin once again.

The first leg of the trip was with Thai Airways. It definitely looks and feels a bit dated. But, other than that, the seat was still comfortable and the area around the seat felt very spacious. While checking the seat map I could see that there were several window seats unoccupied but blocked. Luckily once boarding had completed, I asked the cabin crew if I could move to one of the empty window seats, which they accommodated. The ER has a forward and rear Business Class cabin. Unfortunately I had an aisle-facing window seat on the very last row of the Business cabin, whereas the number one choice would have been a window-facing true window seat. On the other hand, since this was a bassinet seat, the storage space beside the seat was huge, which was nice. In terms of movies and entertainment, this cabin definitely lags behind. I would say one of the biggest drawbacks of this older cabin is the small IFE screen. However, the power outlets were not working on this particular flight. The highlight of this flight was definitely the crew. The service was fantastic throughout the flight, and the cabin crew was constantly walking through the cabin, offering drinks and snacks, and making sure the lavatories were nice and clean. Menus were available at the seat during boarding, and the cabin crew took our meal choices prior to departure.

Service was Great. Seat 72 D is a standard Economy Class seat in the last row of the plane. For the main course, there was a choice between Thai beef curry and a Western fish dish served with a cream sauce.

Thai Airways is known for having a wide variety of aircraft types and configurations on its fleet and sometimes you are not sure what type of seat layout you are going to get. I have flown Thai Airways ER long-haul once before and short haul several times. This particular flight was the best Thai Airways experience ever mainly because of amazing catering!! Service started soon after I boarded with warm towels and a refreshing drink pomegranate juice. After dinner I laid out the seat in bed mode and went to sleep soon after. The mattress was firm and had a great night sleep. The bedding was also quite comfortable.

Since we try to work reviews into every leg of a trip, my options were incredibly limited. I settled on Thai Airways' ER for the long-haul segment from Southeast Asia to Europe, in the airline's comfortable staggered business. I've flown Thai first class on several occasions, on both the Airbus A and Boeing , so I was curious to see what the experience would be like in biz. This is actually United's most expensive saver business-class award, and the pricing doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you ask me. For example, if I had tacked on a flight from, say, Fiji, the rate would have dropped to 75, miles, even though I'd be flying a few thousand more miles.

Great business class seats and great service. As soon as I took a bit of the curry, I was pleasantly surprised by its taste, but also found it very spicy. Seat 72 B is a standard Economy Class seat in the last row of the plane. Old seats with limited knee-space. Seat 40 H is a standard Economy Class seat that has extra legroom however, the proximity to the lavatories may be bothersome. The video system is very good, lots of varieties. Seat 61 D is a standard Economy Class seat that has extra legroom however, the proximity to the galleys may be bothersome. However it feels less spacious than Thai's previous versions with the seating configuration. There was no turndown service on this flight, so I went ahead and placed my bed in lie-flat mode and prepared to sleep for the majority of the journey. Seat is slightly narrower due to IFE in arm rest, and slightly awkward to eat and watch TV at the same time, but amazing legroom. Love travel?

It definitely looks and feels a bit dated. Seat 41 F is a standard Economy Class seat that has extra legroom however, the proximity to the lavatories may be bothersome. Seat 17 G is a standard Royal Silk Business Class seat however, the proximity to the lavatories and galleys may be bothersome. Seat 31 F is an Economy Class Bulkhead seat. Then, perhaps after seeing my enthusiasm about the iced tea, the crew proactively offered me a purple beverage known as anchan, or butterfly pea flower tea. I'm cm and I have no problem sitting here. You get served first, you get off the plane as some of the first and there is plenty of legroom. Seat 72 A is a standard Economy Class seat in the last row of the plane. The seat console on the right-hand side houses some surface space, a drink holder, and a reading light positioned near the shoulder. Also note that there are actually two types of ER's operated by Thai, as the business class seats are ever so slightly different, with the sea controls, the remove for the entertainment system and the storage space next to the seat being the major differences.
