Subnautica is an evocative, occasionally terrifying underwater survival game that thrives on mystery. Here are some tips for getting your sea legs. There are about as many ways to play Subnautica as there are terrifying monsters that will eat you. Here are some of the things I do, but feel free to add your own advice in the comments. Scanning flora and fauna will give you information about them and sometimes reveal new crafting recipes.

Exploring in Subnautica can be a risky business that can go sideways quickly without some planning. When you're surrounded by predators and meters below, an extra battery can make the difference between life and death. Along with this, Subnautica has a unique game design that requires a thorough exploration of each area to fully access the next. This guide is intended to provide a helpful overview of the dangers of exploring at different depths as well as tips and tricks you can employ to ensure that you're prepared for the next dive. When you begin the game you have very little in the way of swimming or diving capabilities. With only basic fins and about 45 seconds worth of oxygen, even visiting the ocean floor can be dangerous. While exploring the Safe Shallows and Kelp Forests around your life pod you should keep the following items in your inventory at all times. Don't be afraid to use them! Just replace anything you use as soon as possible. The starting area may be called the 'Safe' Shallows but there are plenty of dangers to worry about. Early on, the most common cause of death is drowning.

Luckily, there are some tips and tricks that can make this easier on you before you head into the water for the very first time. You don't need to swim around aimlessly, wasting precious moments that could be better spent helping you escape the planet. Then when I go back, I can just stand over that and it can be as close to the wreck as I desire. Take a break from your day by playing a puzzle or two! I like to make resources one color and biomes another so I can tell them apart at a glance. You can also take Health hits and lose HP when leviathans and other animals attack.
