He has a rivalry with fellow merchant Madesi , who doubts Brynjolf's potions are real. Brynjolf will task you with stealing Madesi's ring as an initiation for joining the Thieves Guild. Once you join the Guild, he will move to the guild hall in Riften's Ratway. Brynjolf will later become a temporary follower, along with Karliah , when hunting for Mercer Frey during the Thieves Guild quest Blindsighted.

Brynjolf is a high-ranking Nord member of Skyrim 's Thieves Guild based out of Riften and one of three members of the Nightingales alongside Karliah and the Last Dragonborn. He is first found in the market area in Riften , he calls out and asks your character to do a job for him which is incriminating Brand-Shei with a ring from another merchant. After the Dragonborn successfully completes this task he says to meet him in the Ragged Flagon for and warns saying it's dangerous. If the Dragonborn makes it through the Cistern he is surprised to see them again and tries to encourage Mercer Frey to allow the Dragonborn to be a member of the thieves guild, Mercer agrees and then tasks the Dragonborn with taking down Golden-Glow Estate. He is then absent for a fair bit of the Thieves Guild Questline, but becomes the temporary leader after Mercer's betrayal to the guild. He also says that he's sorry about how the Guild treated Karliah. After the events of the Thieves Guild Questline he becomes a member of the secretive Nightingales and appoints the Dragonborn as the new Thieves Guild leader. Elder Scrolls Explore. In order to restore the Thieves Guild to its former glory and assume the title of Guild Master, you must perform small jobs in four holds of Skyrim: Haafingar , the Reach , Whiterun , and Eastmarch. To get an improvement job, talk to Delvin Mallory or Vex ; you can have one quest active from each. Once you have completed five jobs in a particular hold except the Rift , where the Guild already has influence , Delvin will offer you a special "reputation" job to increase the Thieves Guild's influence there.
