At the onset of active hostilities in the city, in addition to the predictable humanitarian consequences, a special trend is observed that represents a threat for both civilians and armed forces of the conflicting parties. Due to the tense situation in the city prior to the open conflict, Tarkov has developed conditions attractive for all kinds of criminals and antisocial personalities. In addition, the development of the underworld business, especially in recent years, has encouraged the formation of a certain population stratum previously not directly associated with criminals, but, due to their moral and ethical inclinations, prone to antisocial actions in certain cases concerned with their own benefit. Thus, at this point, the formation of groups actively engaged in looting, robbery and armed attacks can be observed in Tarkov, invariably coupled with violence against the civilian population and even military staff. Recently, these groups have earned a nickname from the locals - Scavs. The Scav groups are quite varied, have diverse ethnic, social and quantitative composition, as well as the different levels and quality of equipment and varying degrees of sustainability. Scav Raiders naturally spawn throughout Lab location, as well as having a chance to spawn upon activating any of the extraction switches, roaming towards the activation location. They can also be encountered on Reserve , in the command area of the underground tunnel system at the start of a raid, and additional ones may appear after the "D-2" extraction power switch has been activated. There's an economic system present within Escape From Tarkov which means that high-value raids are equal parts exciting as they are lucrative to the player, and there are a few spots in the game that are especially valuable. For some players, the prospect of raiding as a PMC is daunting - it means that if they die, they lose everything that they entered the raid with. There's an alternative, though - players can run as a ' scav ', a randomly-generated character with low-level weapons and equipment, but everything that the scav character loots while under the control of the player counts towards their overall riches. There are some locations in Tarkov that, as a scav, players must simply check every time they raid in. Originally, the 'Drop Down Room' in Reserve was supposed to be contained behind a locked door. However, there's a trick that a player can perform, which involves jumping out of a window in a specific way, that gains them access to the room even if the door is locked. It's perfect for a scav run, as it's easy to locate, but there's no guarantee that it'll already be looted by the time the player arrives in the room.
