Of course, this is not meant to be a substitute for playing the instrument yourself! I am a newbie but the RK-o25 was a deal I could not pass up. I had already bought 3 of the RK-R25's and wanted a true openback to support my beginners collection. This banjo sounds great, and it is fun to play.

Like many of us with the textured "fuzzy" black engine paint, I have a few places where the paint is coming off. I had the engine cases replaced under warranty many years ago, but the transmission, bevel, and other miscellaneous parts are also painted with the original factory textured finish. So I've been looking around at various paint products, and wondered if anyone has tried any that are a good match to the factory finish and durable. When tasked with re-doing my '02 motor, I opted for a satin finish non-wrinkle paint, ie; Ford engine paint. The wrinkle finishes require heat to wrinkle. Didn't want to bake my motor, or mess with trying out other options. I used rattle cans, high heat paint and primer. Not the hardest finish, but works for me. Looks great. Not sure how well this would match the texture on your black fuzzy engine, but I really love this stuff:. I used it to re-paint the aluminum lid on one of my Rizoma brake fluid tanks.

String action at the 1st couple of frets was too high for my playing, so I deepened the nut notches a little. The finish wood and chrome parts look great. The supplied bridge is OK and this is just my preference. I had already bought 3 of the RK-R25's and wanted a true openback to support my beginners collection. Also got a great deal on this, so overall awesome experience. Very appealing look, mahogony with hearts and flowers inlay pattern on the fret board. I also replaced the tailpiece with a No-Knot just because I like the look on the open back. One said didn't know if he could order parts or accessories and had no catalog. I bought this wanting a resonator back to add some volume to my playing. They will Not open the box to inspect the instrument. The coupon made the price too attractive to turn down. The wood is a very nice reddish color, the headstock has very nice mother of pearl, and the fretboard has very nice inlay work on it. I can't speak for that though, since I never played the banjo with it's stock bridge.

It never seems to get out of tune, and I have many hours of newgie use on it. I am a 3 week newbie, but I love the qualiity. Adjust the head, make sure everything is tight and action is low, then set the bridge and intonation, tune it and play. The hardware is very good. Very pleased all the way around with the purchase. Only time will tell and I have sold this thing already after only 3 weeks of ownership. It wasn't setup and the bridge needed to be put on. This entire review is based on a 2-year ownership Banjo is very responsive and has a great maple crack to it. Very pleased with this banjo. It does have an international warranty but obviously it doesn't apply to us in Canada. I upgraded to the Snuffy Smith bridge with compensated G; Would consider upgrading the tuners, but the jury is out on that one.
