Doom is old now, and it follows that even as fresh new blood joins in, the community has gotten old as well. Which brings us to MyHouse, a lightly remastered version of a childhood project, restored by a friend of its recently-deceased author in their honor. Somehow, this myhouse wad shard of history, this newbie wad by an outsider, grabbed a lot of attention for myhouse wad bringing together so many pieces of what this community is, and has become… and more importantly, myhouse wad, how it came together. As much as we all start with grand visions of making massive map TC masterpieces, myhouse wad, our lack of grip on the fundamentals forced most of us — especially in the innocence of the mids — to start by recreating the places we knew best.

My House a. Veddge emerged on September 2, , with early screenshots of the map before its release the following year on March 3, having not logged into the Doomworld forums in "over a decade". The map is purported to have been unearthed from an old floppy disk belonging to Veddge's deceased long-time friend Tom who started work on it in It was then improved with UDMF features "for convenience's sake". The map is advertised as "not much of a challenge and roughly 10 minutes of play time", but it has a significant amount of content that can potentially require hours of additional play time to experience in full. The map requires the GZDoom hardware renderer to run properly. Jumping and crouching are disabled, but freelook is permitted. My House was named one of the winners at the Cacowards. Many players find it difficult to get the "good" ending on their own. The journal found in the Google Drive with the map download provides context to the game content and also hints in both content and formatting. It is recommended to attempt the map on your own and reach an ending first, then read the journal before reading these hints. This section contains small hints that are meant to contain minimal spoilers and have been observed to regularly help players get to the "good" ending without them needing to read the full walkthrough. Excited to finally release this tribute map. Last August I lost a good childhood friend of mine and took it pretty hard. When I was visiting my hometown for his funeral, I connected with his parents who shared with me some of his old belongings. Among them was a copy of an old map of his backed up on a 3. Thomas and I were into amateur Doom mapping in the early 00s but I had never seen this map of his prior to uncovering it on one of the old floppy discs.
The first mod I ever downloaded was for Skyrim. It replaced NPCs with Shrek. The second was a texture pack for Dark Souls: Remastered. I believe that these two examples form a representative sample of what mods are: quality of life improvements, and Shrek. WAD devs have gone on to become fully-fledged game designers , and some WADs have been released commercially. The breadth and depth of this community formed the bedrock of game developers. And yet even with this pedigree, MyHouse. WAD is a miracle. Its creator, Veddge, had never put anything up in the community and had barely been active for the past 15 years.

This door leads to an endlessly looping staircase. And from there, the nascent internet, to learn from the encouragement and occasional scorn of strangers thousands of miles away who were also walking next to us on the same path. Finally, for existing Doom players, it's easy to assume the map ends after the transition to Underhalls and that it's not part of the experience. It's also possible to access the Backrooms by performing a Rocket Jump in the Brutalist House to reach a normally inaccessible exit teleporter. I haven't had a moment to test, but maybe you could collect all the artifacts in your first run through, and then have them on your second? This staircase can be accessed in a few different ways throughout the map, including falling into the black void around the Brutalist House, falling into the cloud sky in the Bathhouse, or escaping the Backrooms. Didn't get the 1 secret. Doing this, I haven't been able to find that metal exit door at all, but I don't know if that's because i'm not holding the artifacts or because I just don't know where to go. For people that make art, its ability to stand on its own can be terrifying the map has a mind of its own, after all —it can feel wrong, but it can also be connective.
