The Moon Lord is a summonable boss in the Hardmode world state in Terraria , and is generally considered the "final" boss due to the steps required to fight him, the difficulty of the battle, and the fact that the game credits play at the end of the fight. There are two avenues for summoning the Moon Lord; however, using the Celestial Sigil to engage the battle is only an option after he has been beaten using the Celestial Pillar route. Regardless of which route you take, it's important to note that he will spawn directly on top of you and will pursue you endlessly, so attempting to flee is not an option. Moon Lord utilizes four total attacks and one summoned creature, as well as one passive source of damage if you accidentally come in contact with the eyes on his hands. He also has a unique debuff via a tentacle that homes in on you from his mouth. If it connects with you, you will experience the Moon Bite Debuff, which prevents the use of healing items for the duration of connection.

The Moon Lord has two hands and a head that must be killed before his core becomes available for attack. The Moon Lord will attempt to position himself directly in front of the player, just below his head, while positioning his two hands on either side of the player some distance away. Each hand, as well as his head, contains a vulnerable eye-like target that is periodically closed off and opened via an eyelid. These eyes may only be damaged during their "open" states. The core, which is the only part required to be destroyed in order to defeat the Moon Lord, only becomes vulnerable when all eye targets are destroyed. The Moon Lord will teleport to the nearest player in a large flash of white light if the player he is targeting dies or moves more than tiles away.

The Moon Lord is a Hardmode boss. Defeating the Moon Lord is required to unlock the final broad group of bosses and content in the Calamity mod. In all modes, True Eyes of Cthulhu no longer deal contact damage. The Moon Lord spawns a minute after being summoned and immediately begins attacking, cycling through his roster of attacks. He teleports more frequently based on his distance from the player, attempting to stay close at all times. The Phantasmal Deathray attack sweeps noticeably faster, making it more difficult to avoid. Phantasmal Sphere attacks are more spread out and move slowly initially, accelerating over time. Phantasmal Eyes home in for a while longer than normal. Defeating each of the Moon Lord's eyes does not disable them, and will instead spawn several True Eyes of Cthulhu.
