Whenever a new installment of a series like Monster Hunter comes out, an age-old fan question usually rears its head: Which one is better? One way to determine this could be to look at the Metacritic ratings of the games in question. That's far from a decisive victory, however, and only a small part of a much bigger picture. There are certain things that mere numbers simply can't convey, not to mention the fact that patches and updates likely mean that both games are now pretty different from the ones that were originally reviewed by critics. The truth of the matter is that each one excels in certain areas, though that's not to say that one of them doesn't excel just a little more than the other.

Both games are on sale on steam, and i've had interest in trying out the series for awhile now. So what would be the better game as an entry point to the series? Rise or World? SOULR 1 year ago 2. Both are good options, I would vote for World with Iceborne mainly because it already has all the content ready, and for Rise with sunbreak there are still at least 3 or 4 months left to have all the updates. Did you know Monster Hunter has been around since ? That means we're just months away from the series' 20th anniversary in March, but all eyes are on Monster Hunter: Wilds , the next instalment in If the reveal trailer that capped off the Game Awards got you excited but you're not sure where to start, good news - you're not alone. Wilds' trailer, full of weather effects, stampeding beasts, and a flying mount got tongues wagging within the GGRecon team, and as the de facto Monster Hunter fan amongst them, many have asked whether Rise or World is the best place to start for new players. An easy place to start is laying out just what a Monster Hunter game looks like. It's a very simple gameplay loop, at least in practice, that has you beating up beasts with a variety of weapons. Slay them, and you can carve them into materials for better weapons and armour to, you guessed it, hunt even tougher monsters. That's a gross oversimplification that doesn't take into account weapon types, elemental strengths and weaknesses, monster types, locales, and about a million other things, but the key thing to remember is that you're always looking to grow in power or expertise to tackle the next foe. With that in mind, Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter World both operate on the same template, sending you into quests against increasingly tricky beasts and giving you better tools with which to hunt them. Monster Hunter fans have had to wait more than three years for a new entry in this power-selling franchise. When it was originally unveiled last summer, there was plenty of scepticism surrounding Monster Hunter Rise. From The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild and Skyrim to DOOM: Eternal , the Nintendo Switch has continued to surprise us with the scale and fidelity of its software library, even if it has to occasionally rely on tricks such as cloud streaming shortcuts for games like Hitman 3. Side by side, Monster Hunter World is easily the more technically accomplished game of the two. The sheer scale and detail of its busy biomes outmatches Monster Hunter Rise, though not by a huge degree. The developers at Capcom have been immensely clever with their latest game, adopting a more vertical approach and creating maps that are begging to be climbed and scaled. This is very much a case of top-notch presentation versus portability.

Monster Hunter fans will undoubtedly be pleased by both titles as they each bring their own strengths to the table, especially once their respective DLC expansions are factored in. So I'd say both games are pretty solid and worth the time.
With Monster Hunter World hitting record player numbers and its steepest discount to date , there's been a renewed interest in the Monster Hunter franchise. Newcomers looking for their first foray into this ridiculous creature-slaying universe should ask themselves which game they should start with, Monster Hunter World and its expansion Iceborne? Or the newest game in the franchise, Monster Hunter: Rise and its expansion Sunbreak?
Both are god-tier but Rise is better. If you cannot find fun in this game, i question your status as Gamer. Kurona 1 year ago 6 World if solo, Rise if multiplayer. In particular a couple of games I really liked recently were Nioh and Nier Automata. Rise, because you get 2 palicos and you can use the mod that allows for npc friends in party, which behave way better than actual players. These unique alternate moves are available for every weapon type, meaning that even two players using the same type of weapon have access to different strategies and maneuvers.
