As far as what can be planted in them, small plots can hold berries, medium plots are the smallest for vegetables, and large plots are the only ones that can hold Plant X's. The only other difference is how much water they hold. The amount of crops each produces is the same regardless of size for example, berry plants will produce up to berries regardless of what size plot they're in, and will take the same amount of time to do it. Fruitlings will grow and hold up to of their planted berry type or of their planted advanced crop type. Once harvested they will slowly grow back until reaching the maximum yield again.
