Matthew James Johns born 27 July is an Australian rugby league media personality, commentator and former professional player. An Australian international and New South Wales State of Origin representative five-eighth , Johns played his club football primarily with the Newcastle Knights , alongside his younger brother, Andrew. He had his own show on Channel 7 for one season in , The Matty Johns Show and since has hosted a rugby league analysis and light entertainment show on Foxtel airing two nights each week. He played as five-eighth for the Knights, playing outside his younger brother Andrew Johns at halfback for nine seasons. Johns was part of the Australian squad that won the Rugby League World Cup , and went on to play eight matches for his country.

In the absence of an injured Brad Fittler NSW lost the tryless match and despite not being used in the remaining two matches Johns beat his talented younger brother to a Test jersey when chosen as a reserve for the final two Tests of the Trans Tasman series. His next Test appearance was against Fiji during the season when Super League players were not considered for selection. Johns played in two Tests in - against Great Britain in the Tri-Nations competition and as five-eighth in the win over NZ in the final. After leading English club Wigan in its Super League grand final loss to Bradford, Johns secured a release from the second year of his contract to return to Australia and spent the final season of his career with Cronulla. Johns retired because of a chronic neck injury at the end of and has since made his mark in the Sydney media with Channel 9.
