In early June I will be driving from Toronto to the Gaspe peninsula. I do not wish to stop in Montreal this visit but obviously must go through it. Looking at the road map there are several options and I am unfamiliar with the Montreal area. Can anyone tell me the fastest and most direct route through from Ontario's Hwy to Riviere du Loupe and how long it may take to drive? Any detail to help me avoid getting lost would be greatly appreciated! I took directions from Toronto I would cross the river and take the Trans-Canada on the south side of the St. Lawrence River. You can cross at Three River and avoid Montreal. You should consider breaking your journey halfway, and making a sidetrip to the town which gives its name to the fire-resistant mineral fiber used in the Apollo and Soyuz space programs. Turn off Route 20 at Drummondville and go south on Route 55 to Richmond. Take north to Danville, then take Route east and follow the signs into Asbestos. Asbestos is a fibrous mineral with more than different uses.
