Losp pine
This premium pine is manufactured by finger jointing and laminate, and pre-primed for an almost perfect finish, losp pine. It is also supplied in grooved fascia. LOSP is a type of treatment that contains white spirit and Copper Naphthenates with other chemicals to protect against insects losp pine decay. LOSP contains a preservative that is safe for use around people including children, and pets.
LOSP is a pre-primed timber product. It is not intended for use where the treated commodity comes into contact with the soil. LOSP-treated timber is produced in a dry state in its final form, and usually not cut or machined on the building site. LOSP is H3 treated and the active ingredients prevent decay and insect attack are usually carried in a white spirit solvent system. This can result in the treated timber having a residual smell but it will dissipate relatively quickly, especially in our warm climate. Skip to content.

It is a treatment that is normally a white spirit based solvent that provides protection from insects and decay. This solvent contains copper naphthenates and synthetic pyrethroids as well as other chemicals. LOSP timber must not go in the ground and if the timber is cut the ends the ends must be resealed with a suitable sealant. This is because LOSP treated pine is generally machined to the required lengths and shaped before treatment is applied. Because of this the less pressure is used in the treatment process and less penetration of the solution is achieved. LOSP timber is often coated with a protective oil based primer, this is applied to stabilise and protect timber during storage and installation. It is not a paint primer. It is recommended that LOPS timber is sanded down and re-primed before painting.
Treated products are dry and stable.
Builders and handy people around the country are often confused when it comes to outdoor treatment for timber. For decades, CCA was the preferred treatment type and easily recognizable by its karki green colour like the old round logs for retaining walls. Similar bans have also taken place in the EU and United States. This lead timber companies to look for alternative solutions for outdoor timber treatment. Today, Timberlink in partnership with our preservative partner Lonza has developed the next generation of outdoor timber treatment, Timberlink Green.
The organic solvent takes the preservative into the wood and is drawn out in the last stages of treatment leaving the preservative in the wood. LOSP treatment not only protects timber from decay and insects in a long term, it also provides a great appearance function because of it leaving the light coloured appearance unchanged after treatment. Preservative treatment makes timber a more feasible material for constructions and other engineering applications, as it is able to offer timber structures resistance to decaying, insects and marine borer attacking while it also has the ability to extend the life of timber products. H2 and H3 are two main levels of treatment, also known as hazard levels that are relate to the hazard to which the timber products will be exposed. H2 treated pine is treated to resist borer and termite attacks.

H3 LOSP primed timber is rated for outdoor above ground use in well ventilated areas. This scenario is particularly likely to occur in outdoor structures; traditionally, many building designers assume a grade of F7 for treated pine. It is not intended for use where the treated commodity comes into contact with the soil. A low odour LOSP based solution penetrates the timber, which is then guaranteed for 25 years for use in the above-ground outdoors. Preservative-treated wood should be disposed of by approved local authority methods to prevent the spread of chemical pollutants leaching into the environment. This penetration allows the solvent to protect the timber from moisture, termites and decay in the outdoors for 25 years. Facebook page opens in new window. Non-corrosive to nails and fixing plates which means no special fasteners are required.

LOSP H3 is an effective preservative formulation designed to provide a lasting protection for timber products used in external situations above ground. The formulation contains specialised fungicides for protection against fungal decay and an insecticide to provide lasting protection from termites and other timber boring insects.
