The Hyrulian Hero has always been known for his short stature, a trait of his that is accentuated when he is pitted against the gigantic Ganondorf and larger-than-life monsters. However, how tall Link is in Breath of the Wild remains unclear, which has led many fans to go to extreme lengths to discover just what Link's height really is. The answer to how tall Link is has varied throughout the Legend of Zelda series. The reason behind Link's various heights is twofold: Different games show Link at different ages, and different games show different versions of Link. In the Legend of Zelda timeline , Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf are continually reincarnated to participate in a battle between good and evil. Alongside fellow Nintendo character Mario , Link is one of the most recognisable characters in the video game industry. He has been instrumental in the establishment of the role-playing video game genre as the protagonist of the series, which has influenced numerous other video games with its concepts of open world and nonlinear gameplay. According to Guinness World Records , Link is the most critically acclaimed video game playable character and the most ubiquitous action-adventure video game character. Critics have named him as one of the greatest and most influential video game characters of all time.

In a first for Nintendo's long-running fantasy series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild actually provides an answer to why Link is a silent protagonist. Through over three decades of Zelda games, Link has seemingly never said a word, a facet which quickly became a cornerstone of his character. BOTW is the first game in the series to grapple with this directly, but its explanation for Link's silence isn't exactly thorough, and even highlights a major misconception about The Legend of Zelda 's leading Hylian. Link is a name that actually refers to a number of different characters, a result of The Legend of Zelda typically being an anthology series, where each entry is inextricably connected to the others, but don't directly continue the same narrative. There are exceptions, however, including Breath of the Wild 's direct sequel , Tears of the Kingdom.

Initially, she was wary of Link because he seemed inscrutable, but she came to trust him after he saved her from an attack by the Yiga Clan. While the century-long Slumber of Restoration heals Link's wounds, it also robs him of his memories. Link was pretty much emotionless as the chosen knight years ago, but he awakes to a time where he is relatively unknown.

He is also the main character in all other Zelda games, and in Breath of the Wild, he wakes up after a year sleep and ventures to save Hyrule from Calamity Ganon. He regains some of his memories along the way, revealing that he was friends with Princess Zelda. Link is 17 years old. In Search of the Sky Link quickly sets sail and acquires the King of Red Lions in his quest to recover Aryll after she is kidnapped by the Helmaroc King and taken to the Forsaken Fortress. Link meets Osfala at the entrance to the Eastern Palace, but Osfala simply laughs off Link's warning about Yuga, telling the young hero that he is just as powerful as the Seven Sages were.
