Grand Prix , a British television programme based on the Formula One World Championship, had three main presenters during its history: Murray Walker from to , Jake Humphrey from to and Suzi Perry from to In the early days of the programme, all races were commentated at BBC Television Centre in London due to the high costs of travelling to races with live broadcasts done on location. Murray Walker would usually be flown to the location of the tracks to record a short scene before returning to England to watch the race from London with some broadcasts having commentary live with highlights aired or recorded commentary in highlights. On occasions the BBC employed a "ghost commentator" which was someone who would be in touch with the production team in London and gained access to timing monitors so that cameras could record what was occurring off the track. The first "ghost commentator" was Mark Fogarty with Joe Saward taking over in the early s. Following the excitement and interest of the Formula One season , the BBC decided to cover all races from The corporation had initially shown the odd race that featured on the calendar from till either live in segments or in highlights but elected to go with as many races as possible from The first broadcast of the programme came at the Monaco Grand Prix and the show featured one of the most iconic theme tunes in sport, with Fleetwood Mac's " The Chain ". Highlights of the races on BBC Three at pm on Sunday evenings except for races such as Brazil and Canada, where later start times meant the highlights were aired late at night. The Korean Grand Prix had a delay of the start by 10 minutes, then a red flag stoppage after three laps which lasted 45 minutes both in rain.

Formula E is in search of a commentator to lead their coverage on a full-time basis after parting ways with Jack Nicholls, Motorsport Broadcasting has learnt. Nicholls, who has been part of Formula E since its inaugural race in , will not commentate on the remaining seven rounds of the season. Veteran motor sport commentator Ben Edwards will cover the vacant commentary position for the remainder of the season, starting with the Jakarta race weekend, which takes place on Saturday 3th and Sunday 4th June. The electric series has confirmed this news through a statement issued on their website , following a request for comment made by Motorsport Broadcasting. Note: Below section added on May 31st. Motorsport Broadcasting understands that multiple complaints were raised to Formula E about Nicholls.
George Russell took a maiden grand prix victory - and a first for Mercedes in - as Max Verstappen was penalised for a collision with Lewis Hamilton in Sao Paulo. Russell was in control of the race throughout after Verstappen and Hamilton came together as they disputed second place in the early stages at a safety car restart. The BBC will be providing live coverage of nine races in the Formula 1 season across all its platforms. For the remainder, there will be extended highlights on television and full live coverage on radio and online, including audio commentary. The extended highlights programmes will be on BBC One, although start times and duration will depend on race location.
