Of all the collectibles, though, the most interesting and insightful for anyone who wants to really dive into the lore and history of this version of Hyrule are undoubtedly the Captured Memories. Unlike the other collectibles in Breath of the Wild , these memories are not items you can easily track and pick up. If you want the full story of Link and Zelda, but are having trouble decoding where you need to go in order to trigger these memories, here is where you can find all the captured memories. The captured memories are a special type of collectible in the world of Breath of the Wild. This quest, appropriately titled the Captured Memories quest, will be unlocked during the Locked Mementos quest that leads you to Hateno Village. While this is an optional quest, as nearly all are in Breath of the Wild , it is far and away the most valuable for anyone who wants to get the full narrative experience of this game. Aside from the 12 pictures, you can also find the painter Pikango in certain stables across the game world, who can give you more hints as to where some memories are. The memories appear in the world as rings of light you need to walk into for a cutscene to play. Finally, once you have collected all 12 Captured Memories for the quest, one final one will be unlocked for you to find. The first memory is of the Sacred Ground Ruins. You can find this location on the map just south of Hyrule Castle proper.

After speaking to Purah in Hateno Village during the Locked Mementos Quest, you'll learn from Impa that Princess Zelda took several pictures in the Sheikah Slate , and each location is tied to your memories of her. Finding each location is necessary in order to complete the completely optional Captured Memories main quest. In order to find and view Memories , you must search for the locations based on the visual clues in your Sheikah Slate Album. Pikango the painter, found at various stables and towns throughout Hyrule, can offer additional clues. He is found at the town or stable closest to the memory on the map. He will only be available during the day time.

Aside from developing the backstory of the characters, it's a chance to learn about the world and discover more of Hyrule. While it'll take you to every corner of the map in the process, it's actually a shorter sequence than most of the collectibles, with just 12 captured memories to find along the way. We'll show you how to get 12 of the Breath of the Wild Captured Memories, which will then unlock the secret 13th memory to combine with the others and hopefully fill in any blanks you may have. The first memory in your album is easy to reach, but beware of the Guardians patrolling the area. Take out the Guardians or sneak to the centre to see a glowing light. Step into it and hit recall to watch a cutscene, then consider hotfooting it out of there. There's a road that leads directly to the lake. Follow it and veer off to the left when it ends. Follow the road south west from Gerudo Canyon Stable. If you have a lot of healing items, you can essentially brute force your way there by topping up your HP gauge when it gets too low from heat damage.

There are few Guardians around this area, so be careful on your approach to the moat's bank. Set just outside Princess Zelda's Study in the grounds of Hyrule Castle, and so is the most dangerous and difficult Memory to find of all, but provided you have the Zora Armor from Zora's Domain , you're able to swim up waterfalls and make the journey both combat free and reasonably fast. The memory is located just outside, on the walkway which joins the tower to the rest of the castle. It's chronologically the final Memory of the game, so might be best left until you find the others if you want to watch them in order. The castle itself is threatening and oppressive but also absolutely surviveable for a brief visit from early on.
