Lore are collectibles, originally a category of Triumphs , that were added to Destiny 2 with the release of Forsaken. It is divided into four sections: The Vanguard added in Lightfall , The Light, Dusk and Dawn, and The Darkness, each of which contains several lore books with multiple entries. With some exceptions, each category is focused on certain subjects. Lore entries are unlocked via finding collectibles throughout the game or completing certain tasks. As of Beyond Light's release, all entries from lore books that were added throughout Forsaken and Shadowkeep's yearly cycles have been automatically unlocked. Since Beyond Light's release, seasonal lore books that are added throughout the yearly expansion cycle i. A Tangled Web from Season of the Hunt get their entries unlocked automatically at the end of that cycle. Also contained within this page are the Books of Sorrow and The Maraid which were released in Destiny as Grimoire entries, as well as physical books included with expansion Collector's Editions. This is a detailed timeline of the history of the Destiny universe. Note that nearly all events are not attached to specific dates; they may not be in exact chronological order, and adjacent events in the list may be separated by spans of only a few days or several centuries. The sheer longevity of Destiny as a franchise means it has played host to a wealth of solid writing over the years, but this practice goes back way further than many players might imagine. Though Bungie may have cut its mainstream teeth on the relatively grounded Halo franchise, Marathon is where it all really began properly. Marathon , you see, is ridiculously weird at times.
