I remember Dixie's from Bristol and have half a dozen of his original pottery mugs which have the cripple cock emblem on. I remember visiting a friend in Bristol in early s who took me down the docks and we came across this guy making Cripple Cock scrumpy. He had a huge vat - ceiling height - where apples went in the top and fully fermented Cripple Cock came out a tap at the bottom. We bought a gallon container and had a wild night! Aroma is sweet toffee apple, ice cider, maple, brown sugars. Got to this late Taste is oxidised and papery up front, then quite sweet, sugary cider, improved with a bit of air.
