Provincial, private and volunteer emergency medical services responded to the scene on Sunday. Paramedics continued with CPR but after all efforts were exhausted the woman was declared deceased. The body was taken into the care of the government health forensic pathology services. The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was also wearing a yellow bathing cap and purple Speedo swimming goggles.

Police are investigating - following an adult female, believed to be a local, who was discovered lifeless in the water, off-shore of Clifton, on Sunday morning. A group of local open water swimmers, while swimming off-shore of Clifton's Second Beach, noticed the female face down in the water. They are commended for swiftly rescuing the lady to the shoreline and raising the alarm. The Good Samaritan rescuers initiated CPR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation efforts and they were joined by a doctor, who happened to be at the beach at the time, and who is commended for swiftly assisting. At 08h06, Sunday, 11 February, the CoCT City of Cape Town water rescue network was activated, initially to reports of a drowning in progress but within minutes eyewitnesses confirmed that Good Samaritans had rescued a lady to the shoreline and CPR was in progress. On arrival on the scene paramedics continued with advance life support CPR, assisted by the off-duty doctor. After all efforts to resuscitate the female were exhausted sadly she was declared deceased. While it appears that the lady had been swimming at the time Police are investigating and an Inquest docket has been opened by Police.

While the circumstances of the suspected drowning of a female swimmer at Clifton on Sunday morning remain unknown, the National Sea Rescue Institute NSRI provides some details regarding the incident. Upon reaching the shoreline, the swimmers initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CPR efforts before a doctor, who was at the beach at the time, swiftly joined them. Arriving on the scene, paramedics and the off-duty doctor continued with advanced life support CPR. The body of the female, believed to be a local, was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. According to The Atlantic Seaboard Community Forum Facebook group admin Peter Flentov, the body was collected at 1pm, approximately five hours after the incident. The rescue institute described the swimmer as wearing a floral two-piece bathing suit, a yellow bathing cap and purple Speedo swimming goggles. In a post shared on the Atlantic Seaboard Community Forum Facebook page, it was reported that a drowning incident occurred at Clifton Second Beach this morning. According to the post, an unresponsive female swimmer was pulled from the water around 8am, prompting an immediate response from medics from CSO and Netcare.
