Posting: Typically on the medial side of the shoe, it is usually a denser piece of midsole that stiffens up an area to help prevent the foot collapsing.
A low volume but wider fit sits up top with a secure lock down but slightly loose tongue. The ride is firmer throughout with a majority of the midsole being Lightstrike with a forefoot piece of Lightstrike Pro. There is still plenty of midsole for daily training, but the lighter and snappier ride makes it an excellent choice for tempo runs and intervals. The Adidas Adizero SL is a great shoe for the entry-level runner looking to run faster or the experienced runner looking for an alternative to super shoes. The balance of weight and midsole composition also gives this shoe some appeal as a performance trainer. The SL uses a mix of Lightstrike and Lightstrike Pro foams combined with good traction and a lightweight frame to add a fun training shoe to the lineup. Nathan: The SL slides over from its own line and joins the Adizero lineup.

Sam: The Launch is a traditional 10mm drop daily run trainer that has been a long time favorite on the lighter, less cushioned, more agile end of the category. Both models are identical but for the inclusion or not of the GuideRails. They are foam extensions above where the midsole normally ends to help stabilize on landing and transitions with the goal of reducing knee motion, and injuries, by guiding forward in the line of travel. The medial side GuideRail is co molded of slightly firmer foam than the midsole while the lateral rail is the same foam as the main midsole. The upper is a new Creel Wrap mesh while underfoot we get a more sustainable silica based vs petroleum based new Green Rubber outsole. I received the GTS version and was curious to see what 2mm more foam, the new outsole, and lower weight did for the ride. Would it be a touch more forgiving than the Launch 8 while not giving up the get up and go do just about anything character of the Launch? The Green Rubber outsole is more sustainable being made of silica instead of petroleum Sam. Tongue slips way off center to the lateral side when running Sally. Sample Weights. Non-GTS 8. GTS 8. At the time, it was an incredible shoe, and one of the few shoes I loved to death from beginning to end, racking up nearly miles on the shoe. And then there was the Launch 6, which was mostly the same, just a bit different upper. I ran a half marathon in that with no problems whatsoever. And then Brooks destroyed the Launch.
The Brooks Launch 9 gains an additional 2 mm of foam in the midsole while staying true to its lightweight, minimalist MO. With more foam underfoot, version 9 of this streamlined training shoe is slightly more protective than previous models, but the BioMoGo midsole remains firmer underfoot to better support shorter, faster workouts. The Launch 9 has also received an upper update that delivers a more snug fit along with improved breathability. The Green Rubber outsole continues to offer excellent grip on the roads and track and still has the durability to go for miles. The Launch is one of Brook's more minimalist offerings, and even though it sacrifices some protection, it delivers the firm, connected-to-the-ground feel that has become the shoe's signature over the years. The Launch 9's ride remains versatile and is ideal for a variety of shorter runs or even gym workouts. If you're on the lookout for a lightweight shoe with more bounce, it might be worth shelling out the extra dough for something like the Brooks Hyperion Elite or New Balance Rebel. And if you want a more comfort-focused shoe better geared for long-distance running, then you would be better off with the Brooks Ghost or Glycerin.

However, to leave it at that would undersell how great a shoe it is, because there are very few shoes that nail the balance between speed, cushioning and durability as successfully as the Launch 6. However, while both the Ride and the Pegasus 35 are good shoes, and I especially liked the soft and springy feel of the Ride, the Launch is a more versatile shoe that particularly impresses during tempo training. Whenever I review a shoe I try to use it in a variety of training sessions for a week or two, wearing it to the track, on tempo runs and for plenty of easy running. Most of the time this is far from ideal for my training, with lightweight racers being uncomfortable on easy days and highly cushioned shoes feeling lumpen during speed work.

The heel feels a little high and could be rounded a little more in the posterior lateral bevel to prevent that floating feeling. For me the shoe is a tale of two sides - front and back. This Lightstrike compound feels a bit softer than previous iterations, but still is on the mildly firmer end of the spectrum, but the Lightstrike Pro forefoot pod gives a bit of extra cushioning to sink into during transitions to the forefoot. Running in highly cushioned shoes increases leg stiffness and amplifies impact loading. It is not a dramatic feel but is smooth and easy to run, fast or slow. The Beacon is a classic simple, lightweight, performant, single-slab EVA daily trainer. At the same time the geometry and ride see below works for shorter, quicker runs as well. The shoe uses a lot of sole flaring in the forefoot which helps give you a stable toe off. I ran intervals and strides with the Revel 5 on gravel, and the traction is decent. Facebook: RoadTrailRun. The only reason for a 9. I loved the feeling of the upper on my foot but I think it might get a little too toasty during the summer.
Other than the fact that the Asteria has some subtle support how do the two compare for cushioning and response?
I still experienced heel slippage if I did not use the last eyelet or lace tight. As some of my fellow testers noted, at faster paces there is some give so a small gusset might be in order but I didn't miss one. The coverage is full for all intents and purposes, with what feels like a slightly firmer area at the medial heel forward to help with pronation support. It's a trainer for someone who wants a flexible forefoot, moderate stack, and slightly firmer cushioning, and would work well for someone looking for a shoe to do daily running and some workouts in. Our writers look at the four hot trends to watch out for this year. Even in the lightweight trainer category? Not a problem per say but there. Oddly, while the overall ride is slightly firmer, the heel foam compresses and feels cushioned while the forefoot is firm and stiff. I was really excited when I saw the Wave Inspire 19 with a new look and feel. For runners who do not want 6 pairs of running shoes, the Revel 5 is a good choice as a budget daily trainer. Once I became accustomed to the feeling of the Guide Rails, and was able to put that sensation aside, I did like the ride of the shoe a lot.
