Richard Bolitho Series. Series of nautical fiction novels set during the late 18th century in the Royal Navy by Douglas Reeman writing under the pseudonym Alexander Kent, alexander kent. The alexander kent character is Richard Bolitho, and, later, his nephew, Adam.

Later books in the series set after his death are based on his nephew Adam Bolitho. It is probably the longest running series in the genre at the present time. We are taken through the history of "Nelson's Navy" from before the American War of Independence to after the end of the Napoleonic Wars. He wrote a total of 68 novels, selling 34 million copies in twenty languages. In Reeman was appointed Midshipman , at the age of His initial service was in destroyers on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. During this time his ship was sunk and Reeman was injured by exploding depth charges. Later he transferred to Motor Torpedo Boats and was present subsequently at D-Day in a landing craft.

He was only 16 years old at the time, but managed to enlist and start out as a midshipman on destroyers, a fete that was not to be scoffed at.
