Photo courtesy of White Rock Home Tour For 16 years, the White Rock Home Tour has gathered architectural enthusiasts in the neighborhood to tour classic and stylish homes on a select weekend in April. Hexter Elementary PTA. The annual home tour originally started as a small group of parents from Hexter Elementary interested in architecture looking to showcase Mid-Century and Modern homes within the White Rock neighborhood. Right now six homes have been carefully selected as a part of the event, each varying in style, architecture, floor plans and outdoor space to pique the interest of different audiences. All proceeds directly go towards helping fund field trips and educational resources.

The 15th annual White Rock Home Tour will feature a combination of mid-century modern homes and new modern homes that will delight and inspire you. In , on a hillside facing White Rock Lake, architect Donald Speck created an iconic and enduring residence for the Topper family. Framed by broad single-story ranch-style homes, Speck inventively carved away the hillside and continued the upper band of windows down the exterior wall to provide a hidden, daylight filled lower level for the bedrooms for the large family. This mid-century modern home was designed and built by its original owners, an engineer and his wife who graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School and was in her Neurology Fellowship at Baylor Medical Center. They lived on a street of homes that featured low, horizontal flat roofs with open spaces rather than lots of small, dark rooms. This is an event not to be missed.
