The Wheel of Time is a smash hit with Amazon Prime subscribers. The high fantasy show created by Rafe Judkins for the streaming service is based on books of the same name, which are just as fascinating if not more so as the show.
I have read the Wheel of Time in its entirety, three times now, and have read a good number of books in the series as many as five times. It is quite the undertaking, and a younger me would be very surprised at my repeated return to these novels. That said, I think the world building and character work in the Wheel of Time is some of the best in any fantasy series ever. Returning to the series every few years is comforting, like wrapping yourself in a favorite blanket or sweater. Still it is made up of books, most of them very good, but no series this long is going to be perfect. I have tried to give some thoughtful insights into the books here.

The Wheel of Time is based on the novel series of the same name by Robert Jordan, and the 14 books and single prequel novel in the series can be ranked from worst to best based on a variety of factors. The Wheel of Time began in when Jordan published the first book in the series, The Eye of the World , and was completed by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan's death in As The Wheel of Time 's cast works on season 3, it's interesting to consider whether the best seasons of the show will line up with the best books in the series. First, however, the best books in the series have to be identified. With such a massive book series to examine, there is obviously going to be a significant amount of variance, even if most of them were written by the same person. That being said, every Wheel of Time book is worth reading, even if some rank much higher than others. Every book in The Wheel of Time has its merits, but one of them has to come in last place, and that book has to be Crossroads of Twilight. There are some great moments in this book, and Jordan's prose is as descriptive as ever, but the plot moves at a glacial pace. There are no major Rand moments in the book, and the narrative is largely eaten up by Perrin and Elayne's arcs, which detracts from other great characters and storylines. Ultimately, the narrow narrative and slow pace are the main culprits for Crossroads of Twilight 's ranking. The Path of Daggers is certainly an entertaining novel, and it contains some of the most critical events in the series, but like Crossroads of Twilight , it struggles with pacing. It begins on an exciting note with the Bowl of the Winds ter'angreal being used, but things begin to slow down shortly afterward. There are large stretches of the novel where characters are simply traveling or working through minor obstacles that almost feel like side quests.
It has been pointed out by many people, Sanderson included, that he struggled writing Mat and it shows here because he does sound noticeably different.
This original canon encompasses a whopping 15 entries — which begs the question: which Wheel of Time books are the best and worst? So read on to see where your favorite Wheel of Time tome landed! Universally regarded as the weakest link in the Wheel of Time series, Crossroads of Twilight brings the overarching narrative to a screeching halt. But it ultimately makes the Last Battle feel further away than ever. This volume also gives short shrift to core characters such as Egwene and Mat the latter of whom is absent entirely.
The Wheel of Time is sometimes criticized for the changes it makes to Robert Jordan's iconic novel series of the same name, but there are 10 book changes in the show that were actually great decisions. Jordan's enormous series spans 14 volumes plus a prequel novel, so there were always going to have to be some major changes to the story. With The Wheel of Time season 3 inching closer, there are sure to be even more book changes in the near future. The Wheel of Time season 2's ending is one of the big moments to receive backlash from book fans. Coincidentally, the finale of season 1 caused a similar uproar, causing many fans to write the show off as a poor adaptation. Some of these criticisms are fair and deserve to be heard, but in order to fairly evaluate the show's adaptation, it's important to examine the smart changes it made to the source material as well.

On the eve of Bel Tine, a holiday celebration, a woman named Moiraine appears in the village. She is recognized as an Aes Sedai, one of the alternately revered and feared women who can channel the One Power. That night, the village is brutally attacked by monsters called Trollocs, and Moiraine is instrumental in defeating them. Having watched the first three episodes of the show, I have some answers to that latter question. I know there are those who are using this point as a way to damn the show with faint praise, but I do not mean it that way: the show is beautiful to look at, and I appreciate that. The scenery, cinematography, music, set design, costumes and special effects are, so far, spectacular. Some criticize CGI, arguing it takes the magic out of bringing fantastical elements to life on screen, but I am not one of them: Give me all the lovely post-apocalyptic landscapes and actually convincing monsters.

As the new year dawns, it's time to reflect on the fun times we had at Dragonmount in Knife of Dreams. ToM However, especially for seasoned fantasy readers, it is a bit of a generic fantasy novel. The Shadow Rising starts off strong, with the bubble of evil attacking Rand, Mat and Perrin in different ways, followed by Lanfear confronting Rand. Knife of Dreams gets the series back on track and moves the narrative inexorably toward the finish line. The Wheel of Time is a smash hit with Amazon Prime subscribers. News items. Nynaeve goes head-to-head with the Forsaken Moghedien. Barid Bel Medar Posted October 7, Honestly, before this point, I had actually been enjoying the books of the so-called slog. However, these moments were not enough to redeem the book for me. The Great Hunt: I love almost everything about this book, so it's shocking to see it so low on the list. I will get the negatives I have out of the way first, so I can end on the positives for this one. Eye of the World: Again, I love everything about this book - except the end, which is a little messy for me. Robert Jordan. Like The Path of Daggers , there is too much focus on minor storylines and not enough emphasis on more important events. The cleansing, and the scenes in Far Madding, were pretty good. Yet, divorced from that context, New Spring is actually a decent read. Towers of Midnight 9.
