WEZE has two widely-spaced, foot-tall m guyed towers, built in to replace two self-supporting towers that were original to the site in the s. By , WEEI had settled on the frequency, with watts. By the s, WEEI was pioneering the talk radio format in Boston, with a format that mixed talk with middle-of-the-road music. Helen sold the station in to Boston Celtics Broadcasting. The Celtics kept the all-news format and built new studios in Charlestown. Dozens of newspeople were laid off, many of them eventually landing at WBZ , which was becoming an all-news operation. Simulcasts on continued for more than a week, until the start of the new format under the WBNW calls. This deal also gave ARS an option to purchase the station outright, should FCC rules be changed to permit it as they eventually were.

WEEI uses three guyed towers in a line, broadcasting with 50, watts, DA-2, from three foot m towers on a site next to the former Needham town dump. The night pattern protects KOA, Denver. Note: This history follows the present-day frequency, the station known as WHDH for most of its existence. The station was owned by Matheson Broadcasting. With no network affiliation, WHDH's programming was heavy on live broadcasts of hotel orchestras and the like. The station was now allowed to broadcast until sunset in Denver, the home of dominant KOA.
