So I figured, that would give me incentive to change it. I know the fluid is suppose to be there "for life", but it's cheap to replace, so why not do it? You dump it out the bottom, put the plug back, and fill from the side. Make sure the car is level when you fill, just keep filling until it starts to come out. The plug on the side is at the exact hight to allow the proper amount of fluid. A VW tranny usually holds just over 2qts, so get 3.
My 03 Golf took well over 2 liters of gear oil last time I changed, and that was because I forgot to put the drain plug back in and my first new full liter of oil went right back out the bottom into my drain pan. Log in Register.
