When migrating to a new computer, it is possible to move your entire Vortex setup across with a few manual steps. It's first important to understand the data that you will need to back up from the old PC and why it is important. The data Vortex uses to provide your modding experience is stored across three main locations. Before migrating your setup, please be aware that this process is simplest when the following conditions are met:. Ensure you have the latest version of Vortex installed on Both PCs and keep the application closed while you move the files around. The location of your appdata folder will vary based on your settings.

To get the most out of Vortex we recommend you create a free Nexus Mods account , this will allow you to download and manage mods for supported games. You can find Vortex by visiting the download page at the Nexus Mods website. Here you'll be offer two slightly different builds, the one-click installer and the custom installer. Vortex itself takes up very little space on your hard drive, so we generally recommend the one-click installer. To download your preferred version, click the "Manual Download" button below it. After downloading the file, simply run the EXE from your downloads folder. If you do choose the custom installer, you'll be prompted to select an installation location for Vortex.

After seeing that a lot of people are having trouble using Vortex, I thought I would share some tips from my own experience. Building a load order with Vortex is an entirely different system from previous mod managers. If you are completely new to modding, make sure you read some guides on how to set up your game and the basics of modding. This guide is aimed at people switching over from NMM or MO2, who already have a solid grasp on the basics. Vortex is now post version 1. I have included in my advice here some basic troubleshooting and best practices for avoiding bugs. In general, the support forums for Vortex are helpful, and the devs themselves make regular appearances there and occasionally help out, so please go there to resolve bugs with the program. The only mods that cannot be installed with Vortex, are ones that cannot be installed by any mod manager.

The problem i'm having that i can't seem to find the answer to online and was hoping someone here might know how to fix. I can not figure out how to get vortex to recognize the the mods on E, when i set the default download and mods folders. To see which games have been detected, head to the Games view from the navigation on the left of the app. It is recommended that you run the games you want to mod at least once before trying to manage them with Vortex. Mod Staging folder - Each game will have a staging folder where the mods are unpacked and installed to before they are linked with your game folder. If you have limited space on your main hard drive, you can easily relocate your downloads folder anywhere else on your PC. Your game will be installed under the same path on the new PC. Search Advanced search…. It may not display this or other websites correctly. Your new PC doesn't currently have a Vortex installation you want to keep. You only need to copy this folder if you are using Shared mod. Ensure you collect all folders and files here and move them to the new PC. This process uses the application IDs from the most popular game stores to determine where the games are installed. To download your preferred version, click the "Manual Download" button below it. It's possible to replace a setup, but not merge it. Thanks to everybody for your help, I think i got it figured out and working now.
