The sheer amount of dragons in House of the Dragon is part of its core appeal, vhagar vs balerion. At the time of Aegon's conquest it is widely assumed that Meraxes was the second largest dragon after Balerion. After Meraxes died in Dorne, Vhagar eventually outgrew it but while all the big three were alive that time Meraxes was bigger than Vhagar. And the largest dragon ever was Balerion and he remained so in all of canon. Vhagar was the longest living of the big three conquistadragons but it never outgrew Balerion. Meraxes, I believe, is also the only dragon to have fought and defeated an entire kingdom's army while being grounded throughout the battles longevity. Balerion was said to be so large that when he took to the sky, his shadow could cover an entire town. But if you mean the dragonpit, then Vhagar should fit comfortably there since Balerion himself lived there for decades after his return from Valyria. And if you meant the Red Keep, then its entirely possible that Vhagar wouldn't fit in it because the Red Keep was never meant to hold dragons although dragons should be able to land in there to pick up or leave their riders. We don't know anything about the size of the dragons in any phase of Valyria's year old history. I don't think there is even a dragon of Valyria mentioned by name that's not Balerion. Balerion was the last surviving dragon to have hatched in Valyria atleast for the Targaryen and such is also assumed generally even though we don't know whether a colony of dragons exist still in Valyria or elsewhere that's inaccessible. Her size is intimidating, and she has done the unthinkable by eating and killing her rider's nephew, Lucerys Velaryon. This is an aggressive act of war that Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen will not forgive, showing that the violence and warfare in House of the Dragon have only just begun.
