Since poison's dps scales directly on duration, the 'more damage' as well as the 'increased ailment duration' both help out your total poison dps pretty well. But yeah, that's mostly it. I don't know the mechanics of shock very well, but I remember vaugely that you need to do a certain percentage of the targets total life in order to have a nonzero chance to shock, but that percentage is adjusted based on ailment duration. So combining this with an increased duration gem, would allow you to keep a shock on a boss more feasible?
