Originally my thoughts were to go for a tray back ute with a slide on camper, but there were a few drawback to that, mainly that there was no real living space during bad weather in a slide on. So, the troopy conversion won out for my wants and needs in the end. The idea being that the current car I have, the series Landcruiser is a bit wasted on me, it gets so dirty and scratched and I really only use the front seat. One of these suppliers had a waiting list of over 6 months, the other is readily available, all I needed to do was find the troopy and begin the conversion process, turning it into a camper. So it was about 1 in the afternoon when I rang about the troopy, a decision had to be made, I was way down in the south of Tassie and the vehicle was in Victoria somewhere. What the hell, start driving. I arrived back at my caravan still quite early in the morning and noticed a troopy in the caravan park.

If you're new to the series and want to start from the beginning, click here for Part 1. What follows is a photo and video pictoral of the fabrication work done while we were away. Thanks to Paul Marsh for the photos and video footage shown below. During our travels in Southeast Asia, work inched forward. The pace of progress was slow, which made us happy to be away, but increasingly antsy to get back.

Also, it comes in two stages: roof only or total camper. That means handy DIYers can have Stefano do the hard work up top and finish the camper fit out themselves. Hi Dan, Thanks for reaching out. Kitchen anyone? A car is really only as good as the owners who have driven it and maintained it. Underneath rear. Maybe check out Alu-cab, my mate just had one of those installed. Comprising two sections, with the fixed head section in the over-cab nosecone and the other a hinged unit that sat securely in runners when set up, it was a solution that many motorhome owners would envy. Il keep searching but that is top of the list so far! Updates seats. This Troopy-based pop-top camper is high quality. But prior to installing the drawers, much prep work remained including: installing the Webasto diesel heater, insulating the interior, installing storage compartments inside left and right side walls, and wiring for outlets, LED lighting and other electrical components. Here's a short video of the procedure.

June 4, The Cruisinator seemed to be a well-thought-out, well-engineered and well-built conversion that converted any 78 Series LandCruiser Troop Carrier into a capable and comfortable camper. Thanks from Australia Pierre. Any drawings or sketches would be very appreciated. Above the stack of kitchen drawers was a section of bench top that extended inside, with a stainless steel sink at the far end and a cupboard below it. Thanks so much for your suggestions, if you have any more please let me know. Wow guys! We are planning to do something very similar in Australia next year. The pop-top section was secured by three latches and while the taller testers had no trouble reaching them, the more vertically challenged ones felt that the optional rear step would make the opening job easier. There are so many more changes, she was stripped internally and sound proofing added, engine chipped, aerials, lights, I think from memory there are 6 cameras around the vehicle, so many external lights.. Hey Neil.. Internal seating ran along the kerbside wall from the back doors to the back of the passenger seat, then turned right in an L-shape to butt up against the aforementioned small wardrobe.
