Toyota po420
Hi all, previous owner had a decat pipe on my corolla tsport which I've just replaced because I didn't want the hassle of emissions failure come MOT time, toyota po420. I replaced with a whole new Klarius mid section, which includes the catalytic converter and toyota po420 silencer. I also replaced both o2 sensors with Denso items.
By Hshshumen, December 7, in Auris Club. I just bought Toyota Auris 1,3 Petrol for my wife, but it turns out that the car has some problems. My mechanic said it should be one of the O2 sensors and most probably the one after the Catalyc Converter. I bought that sensor from Toyota and he changed it, but after around 40 miles the check engine light was on again. After that I bought the O2 sensor again from Toyota and the same thing happen. After miles the check engine light was on again.

Is bank 1 the driver side? I did measure the temp before and after that cat, the temp was NOT higher on the downstream side. It was cooler. I also think my truck smells like gas. I've searched but not found a specific thread for this.

Use an ODB2 check engine light reader to read the error codes that are causing your check engine light CEL to illuminate. Error codes that start with P, refer to a problem with the catalytic converter cat. The way the vehicle determines that the catalytic converter is working okay is by measuring the oxygen content of the exhaust both upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter. If the cat is working, the 2 readings should be different. If the cat is not working and not doing anything to the exhaust, then the 2 sensors will read the same thing — indicating a problem.

This page is meant to help you troubleshoot the Toyota 4Runner P trouble code. A failing oxygen sensor or bad catalytic converter are the most common causes of P Catalyst system efficiency is the percentage of these chemicals removed from the exhaust system. Oxygen sensors measure these pollutants. When the readings from the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors show similar readings not enough pollutants expelled from the exhaust , your vehicle will throw the service engine soon light P

Have you ever replaced the MAF? First I put 0W20 as recommended from Toyota and now I changed it again with 5w30 to check if there will be any difference. Posted December 9, Insert image from URL. They look the same to me, one has a longer pigtail. Hope this helps. Are you saying I may need to change it? I used a boroscope camera through the rear O2 sensor bung to view the back of the mesh media. I also have a spacer on the rear O2 sensor. What was the last time you changed the plugs? Jack McCarthy likes this. The O2 sensors made no difference and confirmed the fault code - the catalytic convertor is not working within set parameters. If this is your problem, i'd go with 5W30, or maybe even try heavier oil if allowed in owners manual, it should help with the issue. No, create an account now. My mechanic said it should be one of the O2 sensors and most probably the one after the Catalyc Converter.
P is a well-recognized error code within the automotive industry, notorious for its persistence.
That quieted things down nicely. Assuming you have no intake or exhaust leaks especially intake manifold gasket and your O2 sensors are new DENSO brand sensors, you can remove the section of the exhaust with the cat converter it's not hard to do. The only way to solve P is installing original catalytic converter. Hshshumen Posted December 8, I just decided to try to swap bank 1 to bank 2 to see if the code follows, but the downstream on bank 2 has a short pigtale. I've just plucked this below link off the internet as an illustration. Do you think I should try changing the oxygen sensors first? Zero 2-star and 1-star reviews. Explore Our Forums. I guess it could be an exhaust manifold leak? It's not your car, I realise, and the owner is using an O2 sensor extension unsuccessfully, and this car has three O2 sensors, apparently!
