TerraMaster is renowned within the NAS community for producing more affordable enclosures with similar specifications. The company's OS was mostly the weaker point as well as a less polished overall user experience. This is changing with the release of TOS 5. These features are usually reserved for premium NAS enclosures, but TerraMaster is bringing them to a lower price. While TerraMaster improved on many areas of the older F with the new F, the price hasn't altered too much. I was excited once I learned what TerraMaster was going to release to the market. The F was a good NAS on its own, but the company was promising some considerable performance gains and new highlight features to really hit back at the competition. On paper, the F didn't disappoint. It has plenty of powerful specifications that put some other enclosures to shame.

TerraMaster is starting to shine through as the value choice for network-attached storage NAS enclosures. The F is also the larger sibling of the F , which we reviewed some time ago. That was a great value NAS with a few shortcomings, namely the OS — which has since been improved — and lack of any 2. Bottom line: It may seem strange to call something that costs multiple hundreds "affordable," but that's precisely what the TerraMaster F is in terms of value. Not only does it come rocking an Intel processor, but also five drive bays and upgradable RAM. It's just a shame it cuts a few too many corners. One of the most important components in a NAS enclosure is the processor. This will be reduced depending on which RAID configuration you choose. Running the NAS with all bays populated should see it hover in the mids for power draw in watts.
