Ness retrives the book and lends it to the leader to read to the tribe, resulting un the Tenda have becoming social. The Photo-Man takes Ness's picture, then the leader asks for the player 's name. A Tenda nearby will also offer a coffee to the party. As thanks for helping the Tenda overcome shyness, a Tenda moves the boulder opening the way to Lumine Hall.

There are two separate tribes, separated due to the Tenda villagers' shyness. The Tenda who live here are very shy, unable to speak to Ness. The leader of the tribe knows about a book which helps overcome shyness, so Ness goes to retrieve it. Once the Tenda Village's leader reads it to the rest of the Tenda, he also gives Ness some Tendakraut as thanks for solving their shyness problem. A stronger member of the tribe also assists Ness in getting to the Lost Underworld. In the Lost Underworld is where the rest of the Tenda tribe reside. They live in an enclosed space, however one member insists that the world outside is actually a cage.

The Tenda Gumi are a species appearing in EarthBound. They first appear in Tenda Village. This tribe of Tenda are extremely shy and will not talk to Ness until they are given the book of overcoming shyness. After doing so, the elder will give Ness the Tendakraut as thanks.
