However, there are quite a few things even hardcore fans might have missed about everyone's favorite gender-neutral host ess? Updated September 16th, by Bailey Jo Josie: Years after the manga, anime, and live-action adaptations stole the hearts of shojo fans, Ouran High School Host Club is still considered a popular and high-quality Japanese romantic-comedy. Since this list was written in , there are still more interesting insights and facts about everyone's favorite progressive host, Haruhi Fujimoto. In Japan, the school year runs from the beginning of April to mid-March with a small break in between, so students who are born on or after April 2 nd are placed in the same grade as someone born roughly days later on April 1st. Since Haruhi was born on February 4th, this puts her in the youngest group of first-years students at Ouran High. It's common knowledge that the only way someone of Haruhi's affluence was able to get into Ouran was through passing a rigorous entrance exam, but there's actually more to her conditions than that. In addition to having passed said exam, Haruhi has to stay at the very top of her class- number one, nothing less- in order to maintain her scholarship. Some may argue that this isn't quite as difficult as it sounds, as not all students take studying particularly seriously, but top at an elite school is still incredibly impressive combined with the fact that she solely handles most household duties, too. At the end of the anime, though Haruhi has dressed up in long wigs several times, it's not like it's unheard of for the other hosts to occasionally rock similar styles, so this doesn't give her gender away or anything. In the manga which continues the storyline past this, however, when Haruhi goes to study abroad, Tamaki gives her the push she needs to reveal to all her clients over her time at the club the truth.
He wants the club to be happy.
Haruhi and Tamaki develop deep feelings for each other in Volume 12 and upwards. Tamaki has feelings for Haruhi very early on - perhaps as early as the first episode - but misinterprets his feelings as fatherly love. His unusual affection for Haruhi and the trust they share is tested. Haruhi is in search of a quiet place to study when she walks in on the Host Club. As Haruhi is backing up from him, she stumbles into an expensive vase that ends up falling and shattering on the ground. As Tamaki comes back to her, Haruhi figures it out—obnoxious! This causes Tamaki to crouch in the corner as Haruhi apologizes.
Although Tamaki is considered to be the 'king' of the Ouran High School Host Club , it's no secret to Haruhi or the viewers that the true king— dubbed the Shadow King by the others— is none other than Kyoya Otori. He has the cool-headed intelligence needed to keep Tamaki's well-meaning, but often misguided, plans from getting too out of hand. He's also the member that makes the club possible in the first place, as he oversees all of the finances and ensures that the club can find ways to make the money they need, something which is completely out of Tamaki's skillset. Not only is he incredibly intelligent, but he has the cunning and business sense to back it up, thanks to his family history. Being the youngest out of a line of incredibly successful brothers, there's no end of pressure placed upon him to not only live up to their accomplishments, but surpass them in turn. By the end of the series, he's able to stop caring about his father's opinion and instead accept that he loves his role within the Club, even if it won't grant him familial recognition. Upon first glance, it can be difficult to see what Tamaki brings to he and Kyoya's partnership as co-founders of the Host Club. After all, Kyoya's often the one who has to reign Tamaki in, and the club really wouldn't be able to keep functioning if it weren't for his wide knowledge regarding finances. However, Tamaki actually contributes just as much, it's simply in a different way.
