Nothing is finalised yet, so as usual your suggestions and tips are welcome.
I think your concerns can easily be rectified with good landscaping. We've got a shale grey roof. Love it. We also have a light tone on weatherboards angora blue- half. The overall effect is very light and cool.

Selecting colours for an exterior scheme can be tricky, mainly due to people not getting the tone quite right. Colours perform so differently outside to inside and we often don't take into account quite how much impact the sun has on an exterior colour palette. Colorbond Surfmist sometimes gets a bad rap however, let me show you why using Surfmist as a trim colour can be a good idea. I wrote this article in April and it is all still relevant today. However, Colorbond has announced in late August that they have a new white — Dover White. This is a lovely crisp white which I would now often recommend for fascias and downpipes. Surfmist is in the high reflective range of the Colorbond colours. You certainly wouldn't want to go lighter than this for a roof. In fact many local councils won't even allow Surfmist as they say it produces too much reflective glare for neighboring properties. I do understand though when people want to use Colorbond for their gutters and facias but also want a very crisp white trim. I would never recommend having gutters any lighter than Surfmist as they simply become too grubby too quickly. However, if you do want a crisper white for the facia, you can consider using powdercoated metal or a classic timber board that can be painted. Before going to these lengths though, I think that you should look at the main colour of your house to see whether Surfmist suits as a trim colour for your home. A current trend, particularly for coastal homes, is to use a white on the weatherboards. I always recommend using a white that has some depth so that the house doesn't look too dirty too soon.
However when painted on the trim with a more neutral white we tend to lean more towards the neutral white similar to the pearl whiteas the frames pops more.
What are the most popular render colours is an often asked questions by builders, home owners and architects alike. When you looking for popular exterior colour schemes for render put simply are usually grey in tone. Though popular colours should not be the only factor as the colour you select will also depend on the other colours around your house. Colours are one of the most important things when designing and finding the look your after on your home. It is important these colours work together to blend into a final finished home.
About 15 years ago a local builder asked me to design an exterior colour scheme for his new display home. We wanted to achieve a classic timeless appeal for the property as it was important that the house remained contemporary and relevant for as long as possible and so I opted for some warm neutral brown grey tones — the quintessential neutral exterior palette. This really is a great lesson and one that I often relate to clients as re-painting the exterior of a house can be very costly and this is really only something you want to undertake every 15 years or so. Of course, a colour scheme on one house cannot always be translated successfully to another. Quite often the appeal of a wall colour is enhanced by a contrasting trim for the fascia board or window corbelling. Without this the colour may be dull and uninspiring. A roof on one house may be dominant and add to the scheme or it may be a skillion style that you don't really see.

So, ideally, you want to get it right the first time you do it. This is a fancy way of saying that the house itself will tell you what type of colours to choose, and where they need to go. It may be that you want the home to have a Hamptons feel.
