Sam Jared Padalecki and Dean Jensen Ackles Winchester quickly connected with viewers, who became deeply invested in the brooding, often ill-fated brothers. While they remained true to their mission statement of "saving people, hunting things," their plight often became downright biblical, as they took on everyone from Lucifer to God himself. The show's combination of brotherly devotion, fantastic scares, and good-natured humor resonated, allowing it to reach an unbelievable 15 seasons. It had its ups and downs, but the quality of the series never dipped for too long, and by the time the Winchesters laid down their weapons once and for all, they had left behind over episodes: Funny, heartbreaking, and nail-biting stories, as well as a vast mythology that provides a whole new spin on heaven, hell, and everything in between. But which season of "Supernatural" is the best, and which ones don't work quite as well? Here, based on Rotten Tomatoes critics ratings with audience scores serving as tie-breakers, we present every season of the series ranked worst to best. The exact midpoint in the series' 15 seasons, the eighth season of "Supernatural" is lowest in our ranking — not because it's all bad, but because it is uneven. While there are some great episodes, none of them stand out as much as the series' most beloved outings, and there are some elements that were hard for long-time fans to embrace. This is particularly true of Sam's romance with Amelia Liane Balaban , who he meets and starts a relationship with while Dean is trapped in Purgatory. In fact, after Dean frees himself and reunites with his brother, he learns Sam wasn't actively working to rescue him, creating a rift between the typically ride-or-die pair. The brothers' relationship devolves even further when Sam learns that Dean befriended and brought back a vampire named Benny Ty Olsson from Purgatory with him. In many ways, the Winchesters are at their worst in Season 8, but that doesn't mean there aren't some bright spots. Particularly noteworthy is the plotline that sees Sam and Dean working with prophet Kevin Tran Osric Chau to translate the Demon Tablet in the hopes of sealing the Gates of Hell forever. Plus, the boys meet their paternal grandfather and, through him, learn about their family's legacy with the mysterious Men of Letters.

Its popularity among fans wavers, but despite its ups and downs throughout the season, and considering it wasn't technically supposed to exist, it didn't do too badly, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Supernatural premiered on September 13, and ended 15 seasons later on November 19, It became so much more. The brothers were later joined by allies like the honorary third Winchester and angel of the lord Castiel Misha Collins , surrogate father Bobby Singer Jim Beaver , computer whiz Charlie Bradbury Felicia Day , and more. By the end of the series, it was about heaven and hell and even God Rob Benedict. Over the epic 15 seasons, the brothers faced the Devil himself, and then some. As we watch a young John Winchester Drake Rodger and Mary Campbell Meg Donnelly get to know each other, we took a look at the best and worst of the original series.

Updated on July 31st, by Rhys McGinley: After fifteen years, Supernatural finally called it quits, closing the book on the story of the Winchester brothers. In the end, the show's finale ended up infuriating many fans, and admittedly, there was a lot that went wrong. Nevertheless, for a show that ran for fifteen years with such an expecting fanbase, the show continued to provide the goods season after season. There were apparent low-points where seasons just did not work, but out of the fifteen, there were multiple seasons that were truly amazing and only two or three could be considered flat-out bad.

Supernatural is the CW network's longest-running fantasy sci-fi series to date, and without a doubt, it will remain that for quite some time. Beloved by millions all over the world, the show became a significant part of many lives. Airing for 15 years, it's safe to say it left quite an impact on those who watched it. And it cost Sam his life. LOTS of stand-out episodes. The Leviathans, also known as The Old Ones, are an ancient race of monstrous creatures freed from Purgatory and determined to subjugate the human race. This season also features the more divisive Bela, a con artist trying to get out of her own crossroad deal who proves to be a thorn in the side of both the Winchesters and the audience. Season 6: A very weird season. Sam, preparing for a career in law, is less than thrilled to be thrust back into the family monster-hunting business. Season 7: Very underrated season. Season 6 had to figure out where to go from there. The sophomore season of "Supernatural" sees the show beginning to find its footing and planting the seeds of the vast mythology it would go on to expand in the coming years. Some seasons could never reach the heights of the early adventures, but with incredible post-Kripke era episodes and stories, the show continued drawing in and impressing fans.

That said, the rest of the arc of season 3, which involves the brothers fighting to get Dean out of his contract with the demon Lilith before he's dragged to Hell, is solid. The fifteen-year journey of the Winchester family business ended with Supernatural 's fifteenth and final season in Pellegrino is great in the role, but it feels like retreading old territory without saying much new. After the angels fell at the end of the Season 8 finale and Sam was left clinging to life, the road ahead looked bumpy for this wayward family. While the moment is meant to acknowledge and validate fans of the Destiel ship, Castiel died immediately afterward, making it yet another example of the "Bury Your Gays" trope. Kripke always intended for the ultimate battle to come down to "evil Sam versus good Dean" and the moment Jared Padalecki dons the devilish white suit is simply thrilling despite its darker implications. Dean's race to get to Castiel and get back to the land of the living was pretty awesome. So does safety and normalcy. Sam tries to move on without his brother and becomes hardened and more reckless in the way he hunts. Votes: 5,
