I, for one, am an enormous fan of the franchise, the world, the art and the insanely meticulous plots of each story. Inevitably, this article will have massive spoilers due to the nature of these scrupulous episodes, so I advise reading ahead with caution, though I knew all of these spoilers before I watched the series and still had an amazing experience. To properly analyze the representation of tall, strong, chunky TSC women in "Steven Universe," we should first go over the basics of this show. The story follows Steven, a year-old boy, and his adventures with the Crystal Gems, which include himself, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. Steven is the son of Rose Quartz, who led the rebellion against the Homeworld Gems and thus the Great Diamond Authority in order to protect Earth, the planet with which she fell in love. Rose Quartz gave up her physical form in order to have a half-gem, half-human child with a human man, Greg, thus creating Steven. Because of this, Steven has never met his mother, and a lot of the series explores his gem abilities because he is the first of his kind being only half gem.

I thought there would have been many rose quartzes. But now I get the impression that "Rose Quartz" is a single unique being. All the gems recognize her gem immediately, implying that no other rose quartzes existed, otherwise how could they know it was THE rose quartz? I think my confusion is in "That will be all" when Yellow is singing her number in the zoo, there are a number of what appear to be Rose Quartz gems in bubbles. So were they all bubbled immediately once Pink decided to use that as her alias? Or was Rose Quartz just a gem that Pink made up, and if so who are the gems bubbled at the Zoo? I guess I'd like to know more history. Are there other normal Rose Quartzes that were affected by Pink's rebellion, and if so, why would Pink put their vein of quartz in such danger if she wanted to protect all gems? Also, does this mean that all the rose quartz fusions should be called something else? Like rainbow or someky quartz, theyre all actually diamond fusions. EDIT: I realize she only made the decision to protect gem life after she met garnet, but her intentions still seems a little questionable to me. Also the fact Steven lifts up his shirt in "That Will Be All" to match his gem with the bubbled ones means that the "Rose Quartz" do exist and isn't just a made up alias. Well I'm sorry if an episode appears to contradict what even an official source said. This wouldn't be the first time this happened. According to an official source again by the same source as this Pearl was made for pink diamond, but in 'now we're only falling apart' Pearl said that she was given to Pink Diamond.

Greater-Scope Paragon : The Crystal Gems still follow her mission and became the people they are because of her influence, on top of being Steven's mother, but she's been dead for over a decade. Even if all that was left of Steven was his gem, it would reform as Steven, not Rose. She was actually Pink Diamond, but at that point she steven universe and rose quartz did want to save Earth's organic life and give it to the Crystal Gems and humanity.

Rose Quartz was the identity assumed by Pink Diamond to further her cause to liberate the Earth from Homeworld Gems and live freely. Often overlooked by her fellow Diamonds, Pink desired to colonize her own planet and lead her own armies on the basis that she was just as important and as capable as them. She frequently played in her Garden with Spinel , who had been created to be her "best friend". Eventually, Pink was given license to colonize the planet Earth and was even given another Pearl to make her feel happier. She then left Spinel behind in her Garden. When Earth's colonization began, Pink Diamond was largely bored and unsatisfied with the process. To make her feel happier, Pearl brought Pink Diamond, disguised as a Quartz, to the Kindergarten to meet the newly formed Gems. As Rose Quartz, Pink Diamond incited the other Gems into openly rebelling against Homeworld, in an effort to ward off Homeworld and save the Earth from being destroyed. Pink Diamond would often switch between being herself and Rose during the events of the rebellion, fighting Homeworld on some occasions, while playing along as a leader on others.

In fact, seconds after she promised to "free" Pearl, Rose still chose to put Pearl under an involuntary Geas to keep her identity hidden. She was said to see the beauty in everything, "no matter how gross" it was, showing how she treated everyone as equals.

As Pink Diamond, instead of rebelling openly, she faked her own death to become Rose permanently, believing that her fellow Diamonds didn't care about her, but hoping that "Rose" being powerful enough to "shatter a Diamond" would scare them away from Earth. Some actions support the idea that Rose's tendency to withhold or hide information may stem from a desire to protect those close to her. Her personal sword was designed to be able to easily slice through the bodies of Gems, but never destroy their actual gem. Technology Weapons Magical items. Garnet's story in "Your Mother and Mine" implied that Rose first fell in love with a human man before the Rebellion and that it likely was one reason for her trying to save Earth, though since it was revealed that some of Rose's story was a made up past for her to hide behind, it may not be fully accurate.
