Although we should perhaps add the caveat that development on Star Citizen isn't done and so far shows absolutely no signs of being even close. Which is why some Star Citizen backers have become upset with the game's glacial progress. To appease angry backers, Cloud Imperium Games implemented a revamped roadmap back in to show what the development team was working on and what it planned to accomplish in the coming months and even years. The idea was to put everything out on the table to be as transparent as possible about Star Citizen's development. However, Cloud Imperium now believes that its initial implementation of this revamped roadmap might have been a mistake. The roadmap as it stands consists of two parts: Progress Tracker , which shows what's been done and where developers are currently working, and Release View , which shows what CIG tentatively planned to deliver in the future. Today's update spends quite a few paragraphs describing the flaws of Release View and how it gave Star Citizen players a false view of the game's future development. Many believed that the targets set in Release View were promises rather than aspirational goals. To combat these noisy players, CIG "will no longer show any deliverables in the Release View for any patches beyond the immediate one in the next quarter. This latest saga started in March, when developer Roberts Space Industries admitted in a forum post that its current public roadmap for Squadron 42 development was "not reflecting [the] progress" that was being made on the game. Now that we're approaching five months since that announcement, some Star Citizen community members have been justifiably asking what happened to the promised roadmap overhaul. RSI responded to those concerns Tuesday with a post promising that the roadmap overhaul "is still very much in development That kind of language might sound eerily familiar to anyone who has followed RSI's lofty and long-delayed development promises writ large. As you travel, you might also encounter debris and derelict ships, both of which you can also explore. Other features in the update include the addition of a mission system, insurance for your ships, and the ability for multiple players to control turrets within a ship. However, implementing these features is not an easy task. Within each section, there are multiple features that need work. For example, the Persistence Universe content section is made up of new features including derelict ships, moons, and non-playable characters who provide missions. A small team of developers will work with each feature and break it down into even smaller elements so that each person in the group has a small number of tasks. The studio even made a minute video that shows the long and complicated process for creating these different features. Other than showing more behind-the-scenes content, the video is a general message that says development of a game of this scale takes manpower and time.
