I agree, Generations is a much better game than Superstars. As usual Crash continues to look to reviews instead of actually discussing the level design. The score is increased by people who don't mind levels that play themselves and lack flow. Most people actually commenting on the level design state that there's a bigger emphasis on exploration and the levels being much bigger, albeit with it being easier to simply go forward if that's all you want to do. The game needing exploration to get the most out of it is a welcome change. Your gut reaction is pretty much telling you "automation" due to things like speed jungle and the bridge zone launch pipes, ignoring how much of the level actually allows you to backtrack, find secrets, use spindash and other speed tricks to actually find new pathways, etc. A lot of the reviews claiming disappointment are very much complaining about the things that hadn't changed, and how the emerald powers don't add enough, not that these things have changed for the worst.

Most Sonic games put the pedal to the metal, having you travel at blindingly fast speeds while avoiding hazards on your way to the goal. Unlike its predecessors, however, Sonic Superstars trades that traditional breakneck pace for new abilities, more exploration, multiple mini-games, and slightly more challenging bosses. Sonic Superstars has three main game modes — a campaign with three individual stories that unlock subsequently after finishing the previous one, an eight-player battle mode, and a time attack mode. They are all incredibly charming, and while the backdrops sometimes make it difficult to differentiate what's in front of you, they nail the classic aesthetic Sonic fans like myself have come to love. One has a giant snake burrowing throughout the level that gives you a slight bounce when moving along it, while another has patches of thick fog that obscure your vision, and the only way to gain partial vision is by running through a group of butterflies that follow and help illuminate the way. Golden Capital was a particular standout by having you flip the stage, swapping between the foreground and background, and showering you with rings every step.

Sonic Superstars Switch. Yet here we are, folks. While Trip initially lands with a bit of a thump, her role within the game becomes significantly more important as you progress until she proves herself to be an excellent asset that will no doubt remain a permanent fixture in the Sonic universe. In terms of its gameplay, Superstars is incredibly familiar at first, with the opening stage, Bridge Island, feeling very much like Green Hill Zone. Even then, however, there are hints toward something more innovative and creative, with automatic loops that boost you across all directions of the stage, allowing you to go off the beaten path and explore secret areas. It feels like Arzest has taken a few cues from the wonderful Sonic Mania with this one, providing something that feels both comfortingly familiar and fresh at the same time. As you progress, the levels just get better and better, with highlights including Golden Capital, which quite literally turns gravity on its head when you go around a loop, and Cyber Station, a beautiful digital utopia that transforms your enemies, and indeed your own character, into 3D pixelated versions of themselves. Of course, if you haven't gathered by now, you can play as one of four characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. All boast unique, familiar abilities that feel suited to their characters: Sonic can use his drop dash ability; Tails can fly into the air for a short period; Knuckles can glide and climb walls; and Amy can double-jump and bop enemies on the head with her hammer.

The initial review scores for Sonic Superstars are now in, and while the scores appear to be scattered across the board nothing new for a Sonic game , on aggregate the assessment appears to be positive, with Opencritic labelling the game "Strong" with an average score of 76 and Metacritic calling the feedback "generally positive" with a 75 average score.
Scum of the Year. Cancel X. My A button clicks but doesn't enter the input unless it firm how do I stop this? If that's your philosophy on everything then you miss out on alot of fun stuff. Knuckles has been begging for a move redesign because his movement is slower than what it needs to be. I honestly thing they nailed every character in the game, they all feel great to play and all fit every stage they play. Even with Super Mario Bros. Starts out amazing but often turns into a bullet hell mess of a Sonic game. But what about the other 6 zones? Next up are the characters.
