The inaugural edition of the Wuhan Open , it was the second professional snooker tournament following the invitational Shanghai Masters and the first ranking event held in mainland China since the World Open , due to the impact of the COVID pandemic. Judd Trump won the tournament, defeating Ali Carter 10—7 in the final to secure the 25th ranking title of his career, which put him level with Williams in joint fifth place on the all-time list. Having claimed the English Open title the previous week, Trump won back-to-back ranking events for the fourth time in his career.

The —21 snooker season was a professional snooker season with tournaments played from 13 September to 9 May As a result of the COVID pandemic , the season was played almost entirely without a live audience with only the World Snooker Championship being played in front of a crowd. All snooker tournaments in the season were played in the United Kingdom, due to travel and quarantine restrictions preventing the tour and players from utilising usual venues. Judd Trump won five ranking events during the season, whilst Mark Selby won the World Snooker Championship , to win his fourth world championship.
