With the Elder Scrolls series taking place in a fantasy worldthere are plenty of common fantasy tropes found within the games. Most of the fantasy tropes such as elves, orcs, and magic have been tweaked to separate them from siege def fantasy works, but one of the more interesting takes within the series is what they did with the Dwarves. The Dwarves, more commonly known as the Dwemer, were skyrim dwarves mysterious and advanced race that has been lost for centuries, skyrim dwarves.

The Elder Scrolls franchise contains a world full of fantastical creatures and incredible magic. Among these creatures are the world's inhabitants, the most common of which range from men to mer. The mer, or the elves, are a diverse species of humanoids that can be found in every game. Some even serve as playable races. Though, what about the elves that aren't playable? What about the Dwemer?

Mer used the term "Dwemer," roughly translated as "People of the Deep. The Dwemer were an advanced race and civilization, in many respects far ahead of the other races and civilizations of their time. They are well known for their skill and revolutionary developments in technology, engineering, crafting methods, metalwork, stonework, architecture, city-planning, science, mathematics, magic , and the academic arts. The Dwemer are known for being the subjects of one of the greatest mysteries in all of Tamriel. In 1E , during the Battle of Red Mountain , for reasons still debated and under circumstances still under investigation, the Dwemer seemingly disappeared. It is still being debated who or what caused the Dwemer to disappear, as well as whether they disappeared all at once or over a long period of time. Essays, stories, legends, and tales have generally described the appearance and personality of the Dwemer race in general, but not of individuals. In appearance, the Dwemer were believed to be sized similarly to the average elf or human, though occasionally likened to large children with beards. As the Dwemer were a race of Mer, their blood was closely related to that of the other Mer races. In the Fourth Era, when the Last Dragonborn helped Septimus Signus in a quest to open a Dwemer lockbox using Dwemer blood, Septimus Signus revealed that the blood of five Mer races could be collected and mixed by using an Essence Extractor to produce a close enough approximation to open the lockbox. Little is known of the history of the Dwemer and the origins of their civilization. Conflicts with other races were frequent, as was infighting. As such, the timeline is not entirely accurate for many of these events. Recorded history dates the beginning of the Dwemer to the Merethic Era , though it could be said that the earliest known history of the Dwemer was when the Aedra created Mundus , the mortal realm, and with it, all of the mortal races.

A few theories about the Dwemers' disappearance emerged from the popular Ancient Tales of the Dwemer books, such as the skyrim dwarves that the Aedra and Daedra, offended by the Dwemers' religious skepticism, played a part in the disappearance [36]or that the Dwemer, frightened by Azurawhose nature they couldn't understand nor control, hid from her sight by adopting Altmeri or Chimeri cultures and would still be alive in modern days, skyrim dwarves. These findings have led some scholars to believe that sites and cities outside of Vvardenfell and Morrowind were mere outposts, skyrim dwarves, but some scholars state that differences between excavation and construction styles were because clan architects simply had their own styles and preferences skyrim dwarves it came to civic planning. The Dwemer were an intelligent race of elves that lived underground.

The races of Mer use the term "Dwemer", which translates to Deep-Elves [2] or Deep Folk [4] and connoting variously with deep-delving, profound, and close-counseled ; Imperial usage is Dwarven, derived in fable from the affectionate regard of the Giant races for their 'little' Dwemer friends. These Giants have been speculated to be Ehlnofey or the more common Giants. The early history of the Dwemer is still clouded in mystery. There is no known story of their dissociation from the Aldmer , which must have occurred very early in Tamrielic history, as their society bore few correlations with that of the Altmer besides some similar legal principles. The Dwemer built elaborate underground cities near and beneath mountain ranges, including the Velothi Mountains and Red Mountain , and in the mountains of the isle Stros M'Kai. Many misconceptions about them have abounded for centuries: scholars long thought that most Dwemer ruins which dotted Tamriel outside Morrowind were mere outposts and that there were few significant Dwemer settlements elsewhere until 1E

We must, however, begin such a discussion with a warning. Despite what certain academic circles would like people to believe, there is so far no evidence that verifies any claim as to the dwarves' particular customs, morals, myths, legends, laws, systems of governance, or involvement in major historical events outside of those few examples that remain indisputable. For instance, while we can say with absolute certainty that the disappearance of the entire dwarven race happened very suddenly, only the laziest of junior scholars would say that this event happened in the same day or even the same hour. There is simply no proof to dispute the theory that perhaps the dwarves disappeared from Tamriel gradually over the course of several years or indeed several decades. There is also nothing that disproves the source of this disappearance as being attributable to mass deaths, plagues, magical contamination, experiments into the nature of Aetherius gone wrong, or even race-wide teleportation into one of the planes of Oblivion. There is simply too little that the dwarves left behind that points to the nature of their great vanishing act, and this same frustration applies to all aspects of their social structure and history. What we know then can only be inferred by the writings of the other races which made contact with the dwarves before they left Tamriel. The dark elves " Dunmer " for example teach that their great prophet Nerevar helped unite the dwarves and the elves in Morrowind against occupying Nord armies from Skyrim in the First Era , but Nord and Orc writings also indicate that the dwarves were also allied with them at various points and in various legendary battles of theirs. Unfortunately, none of these legends and folk lore make an effort to describe the dwarves in great detail, only that they were a secretive people and that an alliance with them was unusual enough to warrant crafting a story around.
