By Tom Cotterill. Two women have been killed and four other people - including a baby - hurt in a horror hit-and-run smash on Boxing Day. The crash took place on Boxing Day in Shard End, Birmingham , shortly after 8pm, with dramatic pictures appearing to show one vehicle bursting into flames. Two women in the MG, one in her 40s and the other in her 70s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people, including a baby, were rushed to hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. West Midland Police has not confirmed which vehicles the injured victims had been travelling in.

Two men have been arrested following a crash which claimed the lives of two women on Boxing Day in Birmingham. Two passengers from the MG — one aged in her 40s and one in her 70s — were pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people — including a young child — were taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the BMW left the scene but a short time later a man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. West Midlands Police said he was currently in hospital and will be spoken to when deemed medically fit to be questioned.
