The Saanich police officer was responsible for recertifying the department's "Drug Recognition Experts," and knowingly signed off on several certifications for officers who had not completed the proper training, according to the OPCC. The number of files was down slightly from the previous year, with nine fewer files opened. The OPCC received complaints about police from the public, down 25 from the year before. The OPCC initiated an investigation after receiving information that a member had made inappropriate comments and gestures of a sexual nature toward a junior colleague. The member did not request a review of the disciplinary decision. The OPCC reviewed these findings and determined that further review was not required and that the discipline imposed was appropriate in the circumstances. The office in question was disciplined with a reduction in rank and pay, but retired from the Central Saanich Police Service CSPS prior to the conclusion of this matter.
