Reddit has never been much of a stranger to controversy, and r/piract site has faced mounting pressure from copyright-holders to do something about piracy, r/piract.

Reddit is trying to clean-up its act — and it's taking on illegal streaming in a big way. A decade of discussion about digital piracy is being methodically erased from the subreddit, sparked by takedown notices on two-year-old posts. No-one should expect the deletion of a few dozen links to dent piracy, though it may have a chilling effect on simply talking about it. But in mid-March, the moderators received a letter from Reddit's lawyers , warning that the group risks being shut down after 74 copyright complaints via the US DMCA system. In response, the subreddit's moderators have started deleting any posts older than six months, in an effort to avoid any further complaints resulting in the group being banned from Reddit.
