Night Writing evokes the dramatic and universal experience of looking at the night sky. Each of these unique hand-made pulp prints is perforated with braille-like patterns that recall constellations. The title of the series, Night Writing, is a reference to "Ecriture Nocturne," a secret code written in the early 19th century to enable Napoleon's soldiers to communicate at night, silently and without light. Names of people, places and things, from star crossed lovers, to famous gems, to coordinates marked by latitude lines, are incorporated into the works as words translated into braille and made into an abstracted composition of points that are superimposed on sumptuous large-scale, printed images of the night sky. The works become a statement on the ephemeral quality of language and the attempt to grasp the content hidden within the invisible text.

In December of , the restaurant opened its doors to the public and was born as a collection of contemporary art and design, delegated specifically for the project which was curated by restaurant partner, Dr. Brian Saltzman. The restaurant was named in honor of Robert Isabell, the late party designer who was implicated in the creative approach of the restaurant from its initiation. He also happened to be a long lasting friend of the owners. Once you arrive on the ninth floor, an exquisite yet colorful space is what you walk out to when hopping off the elevator. I was cordially greeted by the hostesses, while some live jazz musicians played out of this world tunes on the Sunday I attended for brunch. Although the seating area in the middle is fun and cozy and the artwork is eye catching, the window seats provide all of the action, since breathtaking views of Central Park and Columbus Circle are available. The lighting was actually designed by Johanna Grawunder, an architect based out of San Francisco.
