The four-way lights in the centre of Leek come at a time when drivers are also navigating two other lots of works on the outskirts of the town. This week has seen the temporary lights go up at the junction of St Edward Street and Church Street where engineers from Severn Trent are on the scene. Those have come at a time when temporary lights on Cheddleton Road, near Birchall Close, have sparked delays where telecommunications works have been carried out. In addition there are water works also being carried out on Ladderedge, near Beech Close. The arrival of more lights in the town yesterday sparked gridlock. Fed-up drivers took to social media yesterday where one said Leek had been brought to a 'standstill' with one claiming it had taken 45 minutes to get from Leekbrook to Market Street - a distance of just under two miles. The work - which starts on Monday, February 26 - involves changes to the junction and the installation of pedestrian crossings at the junction of Godwin Way and at the north side of Newcastle Road. Temporary traffic lights and lane closures will be in place. There will also be night-time closures on Clayton Lane and Godwin Way for resurfacing works. These road improvement works will help ease traffic congestion along this route and make it safer for pedestrians.
