Nintendo Switch's premier fitness game sets a new standard for what a workout game should be. Editor's note: Ring Fit Adventure first released on October 18, Because we were unable to review the game back then, we're taking this opportunity--the one-year anniversary of its release--to give it a full evaluation now. In this review, Jenae Sitzes reflects on a full year of on-and-off workouts with Nintendo Switch's premier fitness game. Over the past decade-plus, Nintendo has established itself as the home for fitness games. Wii Fit and its enhanced version, Wii Fit Plus, have together sold over 43 million copies worldwide, so it was only a matter of time before the company attempted to replicate that success on Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, Wii Fit's successor is far more ambitious than many people may have anticipated.

Ever since the Nintendo Switch got released, it has been such a highly sought after console. We are a big gaming family, filled with console and PC gamers alike. But adding the Nintendo Switch console to our family added a new dynamic and one where new Nintendo Switch games could be enjoyed and one, in particular, is Ring Fit Adventure. But Ring Fit Adventure, I have to be honest, has been our best investment yet! Ring Fit Adventure for the Nintendo Switch console is an exercise action role-playing game. You make your way through story mode to defeat mini-bosses and finally Dragaux, a Bodybuilding Dragon! With the help of the Ring Con and leg strap, you are able to do real-world actions and turn them into in-game movements. You can also track your estimated pulse rate after each course by placing your thumb over the IR motion sensor. I thought this feature was a very clever addition and is really useful to see how you can keep track of your pulse and heart rate. Even if it is an estimated result!
A game that manages to blend seamlessly between the workout and fitness world and the RPG gaming genre. Ring fit worth it our ethics statement. With consistently engaging gameplay, gorgeous landscapes, and a relentlessly positive attitude, Ring Fit Adventure has set a new standard for fitness games, and I look forward to another year of growing stronger with it--and eventually beating that absurdly buff dragon.

This past weekend, for the first time in my life, I felt guilty for not exercising. I was nearly two weeks into establishing a dedicated routine in Ring Fit Adventure , the latest fitness experiment from Nintendo. The idea of doing squats or thigh presses made me feel weak.

In September of , Jen was in a rough place. After being told as a teenager that the sports she wanted to play were just for boys, years of an on-and-off relationship with fitness due to a series of injuries, an increasingly restrictive and frustrating diet, a pregnancy, self-consciousness about her physical appearance, sleep deprivation, and mounting anxiety, Jen was now in the hospital being told she needed gallbladder surgery. She was terrified. But, her doctors said, there was an answer. Jen could avoid the necessity of surgery if she underwent a drastic lifestyle change. She had to start eating better, and she had to start being physically active. Fearful of surgery, Jen was determined to take the out.

The game is easy to fit into your life. Not only is it far more ambitious in terms of scope than its predecessor, but it also fosters a healthier attitude toward fitness and a friendly tone that's relentlessly encouraging without a hint of judgment, even when it's been weeks--or even months--since you last logged in. The ability to decrease the game's difficulty setting at any time and select exactly which exercises you want to do also allows you to customize your workout to suit your needs. My Score. Use your keyboard! Levels can last anywhere from two to 10 minutes, and I regularly found myself sweating after doing two or three. Meanwhile, Dragaux, the epitome of toxic workout culture, represents the dangers of focusing solely on your gains and constantly competing with others instead of focusing on your individual health and needs. Most of this can be patched with an update, but considering my cartridge didn't require any updates when I popped it in, and there aren't any I can find, I'd say expecting long term support hee is unrealistic. Ring Fit Adventure is the perfect gamification of exercise, but above all, it offers a fun experience. This Ring Fit Adventure Game has been my own personal saving grace. When the Wii first came out I really enjoyed it.

Because we were unable to review the game back then, we're taking this opportunity--the one-year anniversary of its release--to give it a full evaluation now. The removal of pressure to do certain activities or make gameplay harder lets you improve at your own pace and prevents exercise from taking on a negative connotation as it so easily can in the real world. Also gone is the emphasis on how much weight you want to lose and how many calories you've burned. Long story short, it's bad at tracking exercises, and it can't stand on its own, so it's a shoddy exercise program with a badly balanced RPG game bolted on. Thank you for the recommendation and now, I am convinced. You can even gather ingredients to create magical potions, which, naturally, are called smoothies in the game. Most Popular. I think my kids would really love this game as it looks so fun! The ability to decrease the game's difficulty setting at any time and select exactly which exercises you want to do also allows you to customize your workout to suit your needs. Where to Buy. It might not sound that hard, but it can be tricky, especially as you have to remember all of the various inputs in quick succession, without taking a break from running. Ring Fit Adventure , meanwhile, is most definitely a game — and not just any game, but a full-fledged RPG, complete with worlds to explore, monsters to battle, and items to collect. I now look forward to lifting up that Ring Con to do a minute session. Read More.
And I have faced it.
