As a result, some people consider Reiner to be the real protagonist of the series, especially given the trajectory Eren has taken in the final season. When Ymir asks Conny how the trip to his village went, he tells her that it was destroyed, but at least no one was eaten, so they had likely escaped. Mirror Man? Assigned to stand by at the edge of the Forest of Giant Trees and act as bait for the Titans, Reiner repeatedly expresses concern about what is going on inside the forest. After joining the Warrior program Reiner and his fellow candidates learned from Zeke Jaeger that in a few years an operation to reclaim the Founding Titan would begin, and six new Warrior candidates would be chosen to inherit the power of the Titans. Reiner was one of Attack on Titan 's main characters, one of the most dangerous antagonists at the beginning of the manga, and arguably the main protagonist by the end. As the Armored Titan, Reiner played an important role no matter what he was doing, and he accomplished a lot with it.

Reiner and the rest of the Marleyan and Eldian forces escape the harbor badly injured. However, despite stating that he wants to die, he cannot bring himself to, as his dedication toward his loved ones still exceeds his self-loathing. Composed, he informs Reiner he will continue to advance before making the declaration that this is until he wipes out his enemies. Reiner witnesses Falco charge and devour his fellow Warrior. During the nighttime attack, Reiner and the others are ordered to head deeper into the castle to defend against invading Titans. They engage the boar, and Sasha manages to kill it. Zeke decides to make the retrieval of the Founder their top priority. He is later seen on a train to Liberio with his fellow Warriors. His defeat at Shiganshina cemented this, where the sacrifices he made all proved to be in vain. Reiner suggests that the pain of slaughtering humanity might be too much for Eren, and that he is waiting for someone to either take the Founder away from him or stop him. Reiner asks where Eren is meant to be and Armin deduces the rear of the center rank. Transforming into his Armored Titan, Reiner begins fighting off the War Hammer Titans which have spawned on Eren's back while Jean attempts to reach the explosive Pieck left on his nape.
