The mythology surrounding the grooming of the corded Puli coat is truly an awesome creation. It is not, however, to be believed in most cases. The corded coat is the natural coat for the Puli, and most good coats of Hungarian breeding show a marked tendency toward the divisions appropriate for that coat, which we need only follow and maintain with our fingers. The one essential to a good corded coat, or to a good coat of any other style for a Puli, is the total absence of fleas. As a veterinarian, I know that there are a fair number of people who think fleas are natural to the dog, and if there are only a few, it should be no big problem.

They aren't that large nor very agressive usually! I would put them straight in the bath, force water UNDER the matts remember, you don't need to wash and dry all those matts, they are coming off! Lightly HV to help loosen the matting from the skin. Then, start shaving! Oh, after the initial shave, re-wash them obviously and HV. I think the owner would be happy with this compromise. Tell her, as others have said, that dematting is painful and time-consuming, and expensive. I bet she'll come to see you are right. Good Luck - can't wait to see the pics!!!!

Conduct thorough research to ensure that the breeder follows ethical practices and prioritizes the well-being of their dogs. The puli pronounced poo-lee is a medium-sized herding dog known in Hungary for centuries. The distinctively dreadlocked puli certainly stands out in the dog world. The dog's corded coat can grow long, so the hair may eventually reach to the ground, hiding the legs, and making the puli appear like it's floating across the ground. These charming dogs are wonderful family companions. Pulis or pulik are friendly, energetic, and mischievous. They love to have fun but are also great at reading your mood and know when you need a snuggle. They are active and playful well into their senior years. Pulis get along well with other dogs and love playing with kids, as long as children are taught to respect the dog and not to pull on the dreadlocks.

Michelle P. I think both methods would work. That coat will attract significant attention in the show ring or at the dog park, but it will also require significant attention to maintain. Where coats have different proportions of over and under coat, they will have a greater or lesser tendency toward proper separation all on their own. The only time when a puppy really needs to be bathed is when he has found something sticky or evil smelling. Welcome, Private Messages : Unread. I have a client coming in tomorrow with 2 pulis. These problems can be easily combatted with frequent brushing. Always have help when separating cords on the ears and tail. Corded dogs should have their ears checked weekly for infection and cleaned with a cotton ball. The outer coat is wavy or curly, but never silky. The texture and cording form are different in these areas, and pulling too hard can split the ear margin, or pull skin away from underlying tissues on the tail. Place the Puli in the cage and position the second fan in front and at the same level as the cage. Starting at:. Thanks guys! Using your fingers, make sure that these divisions are separated down to the skin before the bath. Turn on both fans, and retreat from earshot for the appropriate number of hours.
