Primarch Sanguinius holding off the armies of Chaos by himself during the Siege of Terra. The Primarchs were the twenty genetically-engineered "sons" of the Emperor of Man. The Emperor used his own DNA in their creation, and they were designed to be gods among men; immortal giants with superhuman physique and intelligence, towering above the Space Marines as they do over mortal men. They were also incredibly charismatic, as their main role was to be generals and leaders of the Imperial military. The Primarchs were created in a secret facility in the Himalayan Mountains under the tightest security. However, the forces of Chaos somehow managed to spirit the infants away just prior to their maturation. They were scattered on different worlds across the galaxy, beyond the Emperor's reach.

Biologically engineered Demi-Gods made by a god-king to help rule the vast brutal universe of Warhammer: 40K. The Primarchs are giants amongst men that come with their own equally massive issues; these test tube babies turned uber mensch have had quite the impact on the wider galaxy. They're an interesting bunch that is unique on the surface level and absolutely fascinating when you start to dig into their backstory as they're all different, with some having absolutely heart-wrenching arcs that have evolved over the years — and a huge showdown between them set for sometime in the future. For those interested in these large lads, here's every Primarch and where they are now. The forces of Chaos have split the galaxy in two, the Necrons are awakening en masse and the Tyranids are pushing deeper into Imperial space. Despite the best efforts of the new Primaris Space Marines and the reawakened Loyalist Primarchs, more worlds are burning than ever before. Then all record of them was expunged from Imperial Records prior to the Horus Heresy for an unknown reason. The resulting domino effect results in the heresy never happening, the Orks to stop enjoying violence, the Eldar to become humble, the Necrons to return to flesh, the tau to be respected, and the tyranids to become vegans. I don't care how scary Curz is. Fulgrim would scrub his scrawny ass raw before letting this feral cat of a man run around his ship.

Alex Evans. Published: Nov 24, The Warhammer 40k primarchs are immensely powerful Space Marine generals, created by the Emperor of Mankind in the late 30th millennium to lead his armies in the Great Crusade and reconquer the galaxy. In the 41st millennium, some are dead, many lost, and some returned to fight both for and against the Imperium — this guide has the full story. According to sources among the Black Library Horus Heresy novel series and other Games Workshop lore texts, the Emperor originally created 20 Warhammer 40k primarchs in his secret gene-labs under the Himalaya mountain range: one to lead each of his new Space Marine legions. The table below contains background information about all the primarchs — except, of course, the 2nd and 11th — more on them later. Click on a linked primarch or legion name to read our full guide on each. So rehomed, the primarchs grew up on remote worlds, in radically different conditions — some in royal opulence, others in squalor or slavery. All matured unnaturally quickly, many showing genius level intellect as soon as they could speak, and most reaching average cis male adult size by their early teens. Meanwhile, the Emperor and his Custodes bodyguards were searching the galaxy, retrieving the primarchs one by one, telling them of their true origins, and placing them in command of their allotted legions.

Today I want to dig into one of my favorite sci-fi universes, Warhammer 40,, and take an in-depth look at the mighty Primarchs — who are these demigod sons of the Emperor and which ones can you actually play on the tabletop? Strap in, this is going to be an epic ride. As a passionate 40k lore junkie, I live for details about the Primarchs — their stories are so iconic and metal. Like literally, these dudes have armor made out of metal! The twenty Primarchs were created from the genetic material of the Emperor of Mankind himself, intended to be the perfect military commanders. Unfortunately, the Forces of Chaos corrupted fully half the Primarchs, who then rebelled against the Emperor during the cataclysmic Horus Heresy. Now originally, there were 20 Legions and 20 Primarchs. But for reasons unknown, all records of the 2nd and 11th legions were wiped from Imperial archives.

Riddled with guilt over what he had done to save his Legion, Corax locked himself away within his sanctum, the Raven's Tower, for a standard year. Mortarion's banishment involved him being violently sucked back into the Mansion of Nurgle. Sureka watched as the Emperor entered a secret Warp Gate present on Molech, where He bargained with the powers of the Immaterium to gain new abilities and knowledge, including most likely the techniques needed to create the primarchs. It is also now known that sometime during the Age of Technology , the man who would become the Emperor had travelled with several of His fellow Perpetuals, including Alivia Sureka , to the world of Molech , a Knight World only a few light years distant from Terra , in a one-way spacecraft.
