The most evil forces in the universe, Rita and Zedd, Machine Empire and Divatox, have formed an alliance with the monarch of all evil, Dark Spectre.

The season concludes the narrative established towards the end of Power Rangers Turbo and concludes the six-year long Zordon Era , ending the practice of a continuous serial-style show with a regular cast that carried over from one season to the next. In the season, the former Turbo Rangers leave Earth behind to chase after Divatox into space, where they meet Andros and come into conflict with the United Alliance of Evil. Due to the show's major success, the franchise continued with Power Rangers Lost Galaxy the following year. Series director Judd Lynn went ahead with the "space war" storyline, in spite of the problems with the Megaranger footage, which only featured space minimally as a theme. A great deal of the budget would be spent creating cheap green screen space footage for the Zords traveling in space as well as shooting new fight scenes with the Space Rangers which were tinted a different color for broadcast so as to create the appearance of the battles taking place on alien worlds.

When the Alliance launched their invasion, the Rangers fought to defend Earth. However, the Alliance's numbers proved too much for them, and they were forced to retreat. Andros sneaked onto the Dark Fortress in hopes of freeing his sister, while the rest of the Rangers battled the remaining forces, with help from the civilians. This destroyed or changed all the members of the Alliance, and ended the invasion. After the battle, the Rangers assisted in the restoration of KO , and returned home. They were mostly successful, but Psycho Pink managed to survive.
